Why is there an ad for "Federal Air Marshal" openings or "Transportation Security Officer" openings on the AllDeaf website? You would think that the Department of Homeland Security would realize that they aren't gonna find too many ideal applicants on a deaf social website.

It's an Ad from Google? :dunno:

Seems to me some security jobs have a person sitting at a desk watching cameras all day. If they see something wrong they notify other guards in the area to check it out.

They need to be able to see and they need to be able to talk.

What does hearing have to do with it?

pardon me if this is an ignorant question, but since i wasn't born deaf, i don't know the answer. how is someone supposed to communicate with other guards if they can't read lips? i don't think writing with pen and paper will be very efficient especially if a situation requires immediate attention.

What's wrong with the other guards learning some sign language? Nothing wrong in making hearing people learn sign language for their deaf coworkers. They can do it.

Maybe they are looking for support positions to be filled?

.

In large complexes, this could be a firm such as an electronics manufacturer, huge NYC mall, even apartment buildings, airports, etc. There is usually one person who sits behind a bank of monitors. The monitors are connected to cameras that cover areas from say 10' to 50' areas.

This persons job is to watch the monitors and spot any inappropriate activity, such as shop lifting, purse snatching, a man adjusting a pistol in his belt, someone appearing to follow a child, someone approaching another in a threatening manner. When something suspicious occurs this person's job is to inform the guards on the floor who are wearing earpieces as to what is going on, where it is going on, what the participants are wearing, etc.

In the movies where the pace needs to be kept up the floor guards will be asking the monitor person stupid, distracting questions such as, "Which way did he go?" In real life if the monitor watcher is doing their job they will be telling the floor guard -- If only the guard will shut up long enough to listen.

So in order to do this monitor watcher's job you need to see clearly, quickly, and understand what you are observing, be able to push buttons, and be able to speak clearly.

I've met people born deaf who could do that -- With their hands tied behind their back.

...but i don't understand. how do they communicate with other guards? (i'm talking about deaf people who cannot voice for themselves.)

of course. why didn't i think of that? <slaps forehead>

...and you're right. hearing people *can* learn sign.

What I meant is not about whether or not co-workers can communicate with each other. I have done tons of research on law enforcement agencies and other employers closely related; they can legally discriminate against those whose hearing and sights, along with mobility and range of use, is limited. And I can understand "why", too. A deaf person, such as myself, cannot work in law enforcement because it is a danger to themselves. It is also a liability to the employer.

I agree that co-workers can learn sign language, but during a stressful situation, such as a ground battle (military) or following a child abductor (store security), using sign language is an extremely poor (therefore dangerous) method of communication.

this occurred to me as well which is why i asked the question.

Uh, I applied the job for TSA a few months ago, I'm still waiting to hear from them. It's better than do nothing, eh?

Yes, It's an Ad from Google.

It's more like a random ad that is generated on the top of the page. The ad changes whenever the page is refreshed. Sometime it doesn't change but sometime it does. :)

Also, For instance, If there is a thread that is related to toe rings. It will show an Ad for toe rings on top of the page when you're viewing the toe ring thread.

I noticed it says, Become A Transportation Security Officer it might be a training school for interested prospects. I do see its an ad by Google as well.
