Has anyone here gone hungry for any reason?

By choice or cause not enough money to pay for bills and food or etc?

If so, care to tell us about it? I would like to hear your experiences about it.

i went hungry for over a week and a half after experiencing a severe manic episode due to my bipolar. i experienced paranoia where i thought other people were poisoning my food. i ended up being given an IV at the ER and being hospitalized for a little over a month. as it turned out, i lost 20 pounds after not eating during that time and gained 10 back after being in the hospital.

there was also a time i had to go hungry after i moved into my first apartment. i didn't have enough grocery money to buy food (due to the fact that i also needed to pay for cab fare), so i had to go without for several days. instead of calling my parents and asking them for help, i decided to stick it out before i eventually broke down, went to a 7-11 and bought some cereal and milk to get me through until i had the courage to ask my parents for help.

That's terrible, glady they were able to help you.

yes, it was awful.

sometimes i still go hungry whenever i'm feeling manic or depressed, but i always make sure (based on my doctor's and the hospital's recommendation) to keep protein drinks in my refrigerator.

I have.

After hurricane Charley. For a few days we had to ration what was left of the goods. I made sure my kids ate. Husband would wait in a loonng line at the red cross station to get hot meals once in a while. Actually I did not care to eat since I was under so much stress.

We had no water or power. For 19 days. Lost my job due to the storm ruined the building that I worked at. Son had nine staples in his head the day after Charley hit.

So money was low. Gas was hard to find. Usually had to drive out of town to get gas.
Lived off of canned meats and other non perishable food. Still to this day. I refuse to eat Vienna sausage!! Or potted meat!!

Wow, sorry to read that you had to go through that. I cannot imagine what that must have been like.

In the summers when I was a kid, my stepmother, a manic-depressive would only let me have food at night after my father came home.

That was one good thing about school, I got to eat lunch.

omfg! is this your first hurricane?

my story is nothing comparable to any of it above. I don't know a damn thing about "hunger" other than my stomach growling for late/missed dinner and I'm ashamed of myself.

Same here, I've never had to go hungry. I hope I don't have to experience that.

a manic-depressive who didn't take her meds i assume?

i'm sorry that happened to you, bott. :(

First devastating one yes.

First of the season, then came along Frances followed by Jeanne.

The other two hurricanes lost power for a few days and we were much more prepaired.

Charley caught us with our pants down. Lack of good food choices. Take what we could. Or what was given.

Oh! I forgot. We actually gotten the army rations foods. After Charley hit. Kids loved it!! Pretty neat how they heat up.

You are right, but she has a degree in psychology and was a social worker before she married my dad.

Thanks, Hear Again.

ah... that's what I thought so because I recall that you have been thru quite a heck of hurricanes.

oic. that's ironic because you'd think she'd understand the importance of taking her meds. then again, some people with bipolar don't take their meds because they enjoy their mania. (sorry for being off-topic everyone.)

you're welcome. :)

wow, babyblue. i can't imagine what it would be like to live through a hurricane. that's one of the reasons why i refuse to live in florida. at any rate, i'm glad you made it through those experiences safely.

I never went hungry before like some of you did before. That sounds pretty scary. It might be painful when you don't eat for a while.

No need to be sorry. I don't consider it going off topic because it is related to why she went hungry.
