No-texting law applies to deaf drivers

yea same here. Happened to me twice. both cases - it was stupid young girl yapping away on cell phone driving an extremely large SUV. I mean EXTREMELY LARGE suv!!!! I would have suffered a serious brain damage because it was almost a T-bone accident and my car did not have side airbag.

She ran thru the red at the intersection at fast speed and I honked loudly. she stopped just 1 foot away from my driver side. My face was just :-o, staring at her SUV's grill plate.

:mad2:

wow, jiro. i'm sorry that happened to you. :(

okay. I understand the no-texting laws now. Thanks..

But seriously..That girl probably looked like in her teenager years or in her early 20s. My dad was on his way to work(he works at a hospital.), and my dad told me that there was a motorcycle accident long time ago where the motorcycle driver was actually using the cellphone and wasn't paying attention and got into an accident with a small car thank god. But he was alive.

Obviously, if it's a true emergency, you have to use your good judgment.

Sometimes cell phone users don't get into a crash themselves but they cause other drivers to crash. You'll never know how many people had to swerve because you were on the phone. I see it all the time. People are so obliviously chatting on their phones that they don't notice that they cut off someone in traffic.

yep... when I get into car, I tell the passengers to buckle up or I don't drive. Sometimes she whined - why??? it's just 5 min away! My reply was - well it's not me... it's the stupid drivers.

What I meant is that I'm a very safe driver but there are stupid drivers out there who can crash us - drunk, inattentive, sleepy driver, etc. I really hate it when the driver and front-seat passenger buckles up but not the backseat passenger just because it's "relatively" safe in the back. Don't they know that during car accident - the body in backseat would fly around the car, knocking other person out? It's basically a 150 lbs bowling ball violently moving around the car.

it's ok. i have had encounter all kinds of close-call accidents and a few accidents. I've taken defensive driving course long time ago. you just gotta throw thick skin and speedy reaction.

and god..... i love driving :cool2:

wtf? Are you sure? It's not really possible to talk on cellphone while riding motorcycle.

1. Motorcycle is TOO LOUD to hear cellphone
2. You need 2 hands and 1 foot to operate motorcycle
3. that man deserves a Darwin Award! <clap clap clap clap>

Dayum, That really sucks. You're lucky you came out of this safely.

I, too, have been in an accident due to a cell phone driver rear-ending my vehicle. I was nearly 9 months pregnant with my oldest son at that time. Thankfully, the accident was not major and I ended up having a whiplash on my neck. So, of course, me being pregnant had to be hauled to the hospital as a precaution.

1) yes the motorcycle is too loud to hear while talking, But he was using bluetooth and wasn't really paying attention at all.
2) I agree
3) I agree more

I agreed. All drivers (regardless of their disability status or whatsoever) must abide the same laws. If the law says you cannot TXT while driving, then TOUGH LUCK. This should not be exempted for deaf people because when you're txting, this is not about a mental distraction or amazing multi-tasking capability but it's because YOU ARE TAKING YOUR EYES OFF THE ROAD!!!!

when you drive - PLEASE KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD WITH BOTH HANDS ON WHEEL. That's why the law allows people to talk on cellphone via bluetooth - their eyes are on the road and both of their hands are on the wheel. Yes it sucks for deaf people that we cannot talk via bluetooth but hey - do not abuse this privilege of being allowed to drive regardless of your disability status because you do not get this same privilege in other countries.

I must say I agree with you. I think only deaf passengers in a vechile should text others.
