Curious: what do our deaf members do for a living?

No, she wants to get into the mental health counseling field.

Knowing her, she'd be damn good at it. I just wish she'd go to an area that has a large deaf population... like say... Baton Rouge?

The commute stucks though - it's a hour and half to work ugh.

I hope that's not 1 1/2 hour EACH way. How many miles do you drive each week? Even with cheaper gas now, it's still big $$ and you probably have to get up way too early before facing traffic and the boss. Pity you.

it is about 1-1.5 hours each way (bus + subway) for me too..... even though I live kinda close. If I drive - it'd take about 20 min but I take mass transit and the bridge toll fee is $$$$$$ plus... it ain't easy park free in city :mad2:

yeah, the stress...too many sad situations and dont spend enough time with families to see positive outcomes as they are referred to support services after we finish our part.

Currently - I am a full-time webmaster for university. The following list below is what I've done to make a living since 2000

1. part-time Web Developer for this small firm
2. Internship at Bristol-Myers Squibb as web content management
3. web developer for Drizzoo (some weather start-up) - telecommute
4. web developer for microbiology building at my college
5. electrical engineer at Aerospace Department at my other college
6. math tutor at community college

I am trying to work on my personal interest (2 websites) for some extra incomes.... bleh

are you a computer geek???? :giggle:

sounds like it missy, but dont be fooled by these 'big words' web developing, it not just IT people uses big words but hmm im not sure why occupation names hve evolved its strange. Anyway website building isnt that hard, just tedious and often a lot of trial and error, but then you can have bloody big websites and easy ones, (for instance this forum as a pre-packaged formats to handle all this string-handling involved in the postings and all) A lot of 'experience' is 'required' for that smooth mixing of the 'codings' as they call it - really its just HTML programmg you have dreamweaver now LOL , Perl or PHP for server-side applications, list goes on. Obviously though Jiro puts a lot of his time into this stuff, I'm impressed.

Yes its a hour and half each way. I ride in a van pool so I drive only 30 minutes and then ride in the van for a hour - my agency pays for most of my commuting costs so I pretty much pay about $130 a month including personal gas.

It's about 50-60 miles but the traffic is crazy so that's why its longer.

your house must smell great!

Believe me it does! Our favourite product is real lavender as we love the soothing effects of it.

I just love sewing lavender sachets and making lavender pillow inserts as well. Sometimes we just become quite sleepy in the middle of the day and it's because of the relaxing effects of lavender. :giggle: A quick catnap for us!

exactly what do you do?

Pay electricity, gas, water, sewer, oil, heating, chinmey sweeping, etc. bills for every US Housing where US and their families lives., estimating needs, Energy, evironment, contract negotiation/preparation with utilities suppliers for US Housing etc... EUR convert into $ estimation costs for to get money from US Government to pay bills... (budget)... We spread the information to Americans on their first arrival about enivornmental issues... to separate papers, trash, etc. etc.

and damn good at it! I've seen your pix of your restoration projects and it was remarkable. :thumb:

:ty: it's my hobby... I am still doing more... and will post again ...

Hubby and I own our business and it's called Purrfect Scents.

We make candles, car air fresheners, lavender sachets, rosehips and almost anything scented.

Purrfect Scents

I do a lot of sewing as well so I'm able to supplement our income with wholesale orders.

wow, interesting... I didn't know that you & your hubby own business... It's super positive... :thumb: I would do the same if I am out of job... to set furniture restoration business.

Yes, I really encourage people to do this. At first of course, it costs a bit of money BUT it really helps a lot! I love making candles, sew and do crafting so we decided to go into a business.

My husband does the financing & paperwork and legal work when I make the candles and sew. Hubby helps when the hot wax is hard for me to pour.

It is great to do and we work on our own hours. We enjoy it very much.

If people are not able to find a job, they can get grants from the government to set up a home business.

I am a professional dominatrix.

Nah, just kidding.

I work for the most corrupted government and videophone company. I really want to work from home so badly. :eek3:
