surrender your blackberry, obama!

yup but thing is - the staff is "separated" from the President's security cocoon wherever they go on the road. They don't ride together in same vehicle.

but hey - the President gets to have a say in most matters so it's entirely up to Obama if he wants to put himself at risk or not. He can choose to listen to lawyer/Secret Service's advice or not. Remember - it's an advice... not an order. :cool2:

yup!

Prior to presidency, Bush was a hardcore email user. He expressed his tormented agony in giving up email and computer when becoming President.

after being away from e-mail and computers for the past 8 years, returning to both kinds of technology will probably feel foriegn to him.

Well, there are secure technology that makes Obama "invisible" to the world and the messages can be filtered by his staff.

What the President has no access to the internet at all? WTF? That sounds ridiculous.

I am sure there is a way to secure the BB, as well as the white house internet server. I can't imagine the president having absolutely zero access to modern things such as computers and email.

:laugh2: easily understandable to think like that cuz I think same but... you'd be surprised of how little time you have for Internet & computer. Beside... you don't even need it at all because you are the news and the news are delivered to you firsthand that will hit the news later.

1. You are given ALL kinds of information (which is same as Internet but better quality). You do not need to research at all for yourself. All you have to do is tell your staff to come up with report/summary.
2. if you need something - simply ask your secretary that you need it. For ie - "Miss. Moneypenny, can you find me a nice simple digital camera? I need it for my daughter's birthday."
3. You're so busy that your daily schedule is meeting with all important people (and some unimportant people) and traveling and reading the papers compiled by your staff before you have to decide on something
4. lastly.... you don't really need Internet/computer at all... you have ALL the information at your disposal. You have secretary to type up your report/letter/etc.... You have staff to research for you... You're given firsthand news before it hits the news (most of time).... hell - you're given a first class seat to war scenes (via satellite).. not like those shitty grainy night-vision clips from CNN... the only thing left for you with Internet is to surf the LOLcats site.

:cool2:

Yep...basically Obama's staff are his lifeline. They take care of his businesses so he won't need internet or anything to worry about, except if he wanted to look up on porn. :giggle:

and Clinton had a live porn right in his office! :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

but surely that they would allow the president a personal email account to send personal emails to friends and family while on the road. You know there are just somethings that shouldn't even go through a personal secretary.

that is up to President to do so. Remember - ALL emails (no matter how private or personal they are)... they must be archived to government record which later be declassified to National Security Archive... which will be available for all public to view.

That's why Sarah Palin used yahoo email.... supposedly

how do you guard against wireless transmission? Ever read news about Chinese's cyber attacks? If they can do it, imagine what the sophisticated, high-tech, well-funded terrorist organization can do with Obama's blackberry... especially tracking him down and gathering sensitive/classified information from his BB.

You do not have to hurt Obama directly but thru his people.
Yeah, the Chinese are a problem. Even Chinese-made technical products are a risk. A friend of mine works for a classified scientific military command. He recently told me that they are not allowed to use CDs or flash drives on their work computers at all because of the risk.

But Im sure the President decides in the end what emails are declassified and which ones are kept private.

Obviously the ones that share national security are the ones that never get declassified, but Im sure the ones that share private family and personal information about the president are also kept confidential, especially his health records, to declassify them without written consent would be a violation of the HIPPA Act of 1996.

Im sure they probably do their actual work on computers that are NOT connected at all whatsoever to the Internet, then when it is time to share such information it is stored on a secure storage device such as an external hard-drive that can be connected to a computer that can transmit that work to another computer. I assume that nothing is ever actually stored or left on a computer that remains connected to the internet? And I assume it is a Mac Based environment.

Funny how people talk about email and cellphone not being secure because it can locate Obama or compromise his security yet Bin Laden uses cellphone and computers and and still hasn't gotten caught! The attacks were totally unexpected... none of them would have happened if terrorists did not have technology to communicate in cooperation.

Just curious, How do you know he uses those?

I heard that the IT people glued the USB ports in computers to prevent that. cheap but effective solution!

I highly doubt Bin Laden used cellphone/computers.... only his staff. Believe me - senior ranking officers knew better not to even use any high-tech stuff... don't you know what our Echelon technology and NSA are capable of? :cool2:
