Do you remember what you were doing on this day 30 years ago when you heard the news?!

I was only 8 years old at the time and far too young to understand what happened at Jonestown.

However, I did watch two very interesting shows on CNN and MSNBC about Jonestown the other day. One of them (on CNN) was called, "Escape to Jonestown."

Whenever I think of what happened to all of those followers (especially their innocent children), it makes me sad. :( What saddens me most though is how all of the followers sang, danced and celebrated the night before not even realizing that they had less than 24 hours to live. :(

Sorry, I don't remember that day. I was only 2 years old that day. I never heard of that until now.

I had to look up what day the 18th in 1978 would be... It was on a Saturday... I probably was with the [hearing] football team in/or on way to Spring City, Tenn., (outside of Chattanooga) for a game. I was six years old at the time. I didn't know about Jonestown Massacre until I was a teenager. I didn't watch much of TVs as I preferred to play outside with my friends or relatives. I was probably a little too young to understand anyway.

I remember the event well. I was at home. I was a news junky even back then. And, I was a young adult at the time.

?? Website about this? I was 10 years old.. Dont remember?

I was 21 and not long married. I was hoping to have children and I remember how bad the deaths of all the children made me feel.

It was almost unbelievable that someone could influence so many people in the mass suicide.

Just Google Jonestown, Guyana. CNN and MSNBC have been running documentaries on the story, as well.

Yep. In fact, CNN and MSNBC aired two documentaries about Jonestown yesterday, so you may want to watch both of these cable news channels during primetime tonight or tomorrow.

I think I'm going to do a Google search on this topic because I'd like to learn more about it. I thought both of the documentaries on CNN and MSNBC were poingnant, well-done and quite interesting to say the least.

I saw the MSNBC documentary a couple of weeks ago. Even though I'd already seen several Jim Jones and People's Temple documentaries prior, it was really quite good and managed to shed new light on some things.

Agreed. I thought both of the documentaries were well done. They didn't really give me a lot of new information, as I remember the events clearly, but they were certainly interesting. And, I was able to look at things from a perspective I didn't have in 1978.
