Slate.com: If Obama Loses, racism is the only reason McCain might beat him

If he spent 2nd half of his career as a politician... senator, governor, whatever... I'd vote for him.. assuming he did a pretty good job. I believe it's important for a leader to AT LEAST have a military experience because being a Commander in Chief is a serious business. He would act with prudence before sending men to any conflicts because he knows what it's like. More importantly, he'd know better how and where the tax money is best spent especially in Pentagon and DoD - the biggest money pit hole. Oh - I'm sure he would not even think to neglect the returning veterans with this Veteran medical blunder.

100% politician doesn't. He'll think "acceptable loss... collateral damage." He would not know anything about the inner working of military. Just throw money on it.

Bill Clinton = great President but crappy Commander-in-Chief
JFK = same as Clinton
GHB = shitty President but decent Commander-in-Chief
Obama = could be a good President but no doubt he'll be a crappy Commander-in-Chief

a combination of military + politic = a nice overall quality of leadership

:gpost:

Would someone do a home work - check major wars in last 90 years... count how many of those president are republican and democratic that declared war upon other country as Commander-in-Chief.

Just check it out... I was rather surprised to see the numbers. If I can cite my sources, I will post it when I get chance to. Need someone to remind me to post sources.

If you had choice of Obama or Colin Powell... who would you actually choose? Would racism be a factor? Or it just the difference of which party they represent? Both have African American appearance.

Not a long ago - Colin Powell did consider running for president, he decline the opportunity. If he ran, he might have done better job than Bush. That just a thought of the day.

BTW... Colin Powell is republican if you are wondering which party he involved with.

WIKI Link - Read the Presidential appointments section, it briefly mentioned his status as president campaign. He decline to go against Clinton.
Colin Powell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikipedia isn't that reliable.

Wikipedia isn't that reliable.

I remember when I was in 7th grade when Colin Powell was considering president but decline. I remembered that so Wiki is still close enough to what I remember.

Wiki is a growing source for us to use. Its reasonable because it has a lot sources to cite their claims. Even it will cite needed for certain statement. You can challenge Wiki if its error.

:hmm:

I still wouldn't cite it as it's still a questionable source.

It's a good starting point.

I remembered when Colin Powell was considering the Presidency as well and if memory serves me correctly--I think his wife had a lot to do with it as she wasn't a fan of DC politics.

Americans are just not ready to have african-american president.

I hope that you're not making your voting decision based on skin color or what certain people are not ready for. I hope you see past his color.

Yeah, I checked that out some time ago when the issue first began to be brought into the discussion.

One would hope, but it would appear that there is a faction out there that is still not able to see past the surface.

At least I dont say it as my own word. You right, its a starting point. I want to avoid making a claim out of my own wording.

I was told that many college dont like Wiki because its too easy to find information. However, I heard a story about one professor challenge his students to research and add more sources to Wiki instead of writing a report. That was his way of changing playing field of researches.

I heard the same thing too!

Well, he is right since I do not see "References" about it. But I do remember I hear the news but I dunno what happen to the source. *shurg* As I look up on the actual original source which appear to be remove. :(

As always told by many professors - they hate wiki as sources for papers. True that Wiki is an excellent starting point for a quick info, etc. but for serious report, wiki can be full of errors, misleading, inaccurate, misconstrued, etc. Always look for sources in academic database (ie. EBSCOhost). peer-reviewed sources are even better.

In my college days - I have used Lexis-nexium academic database. That was a deep information and research website. But right now I dont have access to that database because I am outside of school. So Wiki is my next source to surface research to lead to where I can find more information.

True - its better to use Academic database as your sources. Often paid website. Oh well... At least we have some form of controlled data on website.

Is there spomething specific that you are looking for? Perhaps I can locate it for you.

public library does have an access to those databases - usually in cities or at bigger libraries. if it's a small-town library... chance is slim to none.

Right now I am not looking for anything specific. It was debate about how reliable Wiki is.

The argument was did Colin Powell considered candidate for presidency but declined. On wiki its stated but not why.

Also maybe you can research to validate information about 1900-2008, how many wars USA has been involved with. And who was the president that declared the war (include the party status).

Remember only President can say declare war if he has full permission from Congress. The congress cannot declare war if president does not. That why they call president "commander of chief".

Two topic of interested - war history with president/party. And Colin Powell's reason of waive ticket to president.

Never thought of Public Library. I am in metro, means I can find good network of library research database. Umm... Dont want to waste my gas money on driving to library. Oh well...

ride bike, silly :cool2: That's why I'm buying a cheap simple scooter/motorcycle - just to ride around my gridlocked town for errand runs.

Bush basically proved he can do it without Congress's say. Cheney proved that VP power can actually usurped President on certain things. They basically just proved how delicate our Constitutions is and especially how powerless we have become. This is why we must band together and vote! and speak out! :cool2:
