Laser mouse don't have LED, like highlander said.

Highlander, I had same problem with optical apple mouse when read on wood desk and made mouse click so lagging on Mac OS X then I put mouse pad on it and running so smooth. I had tested on my laser mouse on wood desktop, wow... it's smooth but I have to use mouse pad with wrist pad support due my wrist have numb problem, it went away after use mouse pad with wrist pad support.

Laser mouse does read so smooth when u use on magazine, that what I did when road trip to FL, I just play Vegas 2 via Vista bootcamp on MBP with laser mouse on magazine.

Dig in deeper, Laser Diode is actually a different kind of LED, It's just the difference on substrate layers. But functions the same as LED but only brigher than Sun cuz electricity flow one direction but blocks on the opposite direction similiar to Diode. It's the same thing with CD, DVD, and BlueRay and laser pointers ect... I should have mentioned Laser Diode instead of LED Laser previous posting to clarify it.

There are many types of lasers out there.

Did you know that you can hack laser diode to burn paper, matches ect.
You'll have to google search it or watch on Youtube. I wouldn't give it a details.

Yeah, Laser diode works by the electron (similar thing that CRT TVs use) which "excites" the molecules inside a tiny container, thus creates a bright stream of light pointing over long distances.
