Aha, this grabbed your attention...

I am curious about the real effects of smoking pot. I saw a poster about how smoking pot causes holes to form in the brain in the long term. Yeah, yeah.. munchies and red eyes we already know about that. haha!

I found that I tend to sleep easily while I watch movies after smoking pot (did the thing back in college, for one semester). Had the munchies. Red eyes. Short term memory loss. I guess some people handle that better. I am scared of getting holes in my brain, but would like to know if that is disinformation too.

I'd like to hear your sources and take on the effects of smoking pot. I've heard disinformation somewhere here, and found that to be insteresting.. so I started a new thread on it in the Education conference. If it's in the wrong conference, then mods, feel free to move it wherever you think is right.

Well liza i did some pot a yr ago what it just does its makes me tired and also makes me see spirals when im watching tv and i hear diffy sounds ( uddy i wear HA) and sounds like poeple talking in computer voices. and i usually get hungree and weird when im using that i decided its not for me i perfer to b e normal where i know im saying something but not doing something stupid.

Never forgot how much I have insomnia during college life even high school days. Hardly to get better sleep on time (average 2 to 5 hours that's less than normal average) . So I use marijuana to knock me off. Let anxeity and worrying on hold after puffed some. That lead to being hilarious and laughing too much for what reason.
Only problem I have with using marijuana is gain weight. Everyone have different real effects I do believe. Really Marijuana did not kill my good grade as long as I handle so well. Right now? Not using very often. I could say rarely.

Also, I heard some students at Gally for using "SPEED" pills. They use it for studying for Final Exams. Just remmy anything what studying in which course. Then write it down on the exams. After effect's gone then they forgot what they study about. Not sure if that true. Sorry for off the point about SPEED pills.

it only effect you be more lazy and your memories will reduced unless you contiuned reading the books or learn something new then your brain cell will prodouced more new cells. Keep the mind refresh.

 Yeah...I used to smoke pot on a daily basis for the first 5 years since I was introduced to pot -- I must agree with Liza about the short term memory and munchies, etc! I used pot to escape reality for a bit as I had a bit of stress and dealing with issues I had back then. The very last time I smoked pot was just this past New Year's Eve -- I smoked with my MUM IN LAW!!! It was so unreal!
I liked smoking pot because it sort of expanded my imagination and analyze a lot of things in depth, deeper than I would normally do.

I do miss smoking pot sometimes, but I just know it does affect me mentally and I work long hours and I just can't risk having that affect my workmanship at work, you know? But, if I were on holidays and my hubby doesn't object to it, THEN I'll have a puff or two to enjoy! ;)

sometime im too scared to smoke up cuz most time when i smoke up and we watch mad tv. they makes funny shit and somehow i feel like they are ACTUALLY TALKING TO ME. my body get numbs, my head drowns. i stand up and walk like dead people walking to my room and fall sleep.

Hey, take a look at this!

 Thank god we don't look like THAT! It's not like that I'm
:Owned: by pot and be destroyed by it. I only smoke it occassionally. ;) So, I can't be part of that group you have established, Banjo! Joining members are required to be smokers that smoke pot EVERY single day, every SINGLE minute of the day to qualify as members of AD Pothead group. ;)

My daughter got an "A" on a research paper on pot her Freshman year in Collage. It was pretty interesting. It talked about how the pharmaceutical companies spent million of dollars to make sure it was made illegal. Two times in U.S. History the government was going to run tests and both times the pharmaceutical companies said they would do it and foot the bill. They knew just what doctors did back then that pot has a lot of medical benefits and I'm not just talking about glaucoma.

So of course the pharmaceutical companies wanted no part of this so they made sure it was made illegal and the bad health issues that everybody says are associated with pot are 90% bogus. My daughter doesn't have a copy of her paper but I have asked her to summarize it so I can post it but I'm not holding my breath that she gets this done anytime soon.

Here is one source that defines your concern about "holes" or defects in the brain caused by smoking marijuana.

http://www.mfiles.org/Marijuana/marijauna_brochurea02.pdf
(This document requires Adobe Acrobat to read)

It states (for those who don't want to read):
------------------------------------------------------
MYTH: Smoking marijuana has no damaging effects on the brain.

FACT: Recent advances in brain imaging, such as SPECT (single photon emission computed topography) scans, now allow doctors to see the functional aspects of brain activity. It can detect disorders such as ADA (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), depression, OCD (obsessive
compulsive disorder) and ODD (oppositional defiant behavior disorder. This groundbreaking technology also dramatically reveals the damaging affects of various drugs, such Brain with normal blood flow 12 years of marijuana as marijuana, by detecting various medical and neuro-behavioral disorders. The column at far left shows SPECT images (top-down surface view) depicting a normal brain and a brain affected by chronic marijuana use. The images below show the underside surface SPECT images where defects, or holes, appear in areas of decreased blood flow and brain activity. Defects of this type have been associated with attention problems, disorganization, procrastination and lack of motivation.
--------------------------------------------------------

This document has pictures comparing a normal brain with two pictures, one that says "Marijuana affected brain" and another that says "12 years of marijuana." The differences are pretty startling.

Besides this source, I found no others. However, an interesting note that I found while searching for documents pertaining to this is that chocolate has a few chemicals that react to the brain in the same way that THC (the main chemical in marijuana) does, but that is another story.

After personal experience and a bit of research, I can only say that smoking pot once every two weeks to a month is safe, but smoking everyday, even once a week, can be hazardous. Marijuana can lead to cancer, respiratory difficulties, amongst other things. It does help the human body relax a lot, even if the emotions are a bit over-shot.

ahem, some of the responses here (from those who claim to have no ill effects after a decade of use) could be used very effectively in a anti-drug program aimed at kids. :-o

I do my research sometimes on marijuana, and this subject is no different. I looked up what Liza asked. You may not give a fuck, but s/he might. Face this with an open mind, that's all I say. Thank you.

And yes, I smoke sometimes.

no, im speaking my mind. Nice try.

and also think of this.......

Have 2 houses, all boarded up, locked up so nobody can leave or get in. One holds a full house of people that just only will drink for that night. of any alochol.

2nd house full of peeps but only what, smoking pot....

4 to 6 hours later... Which house will last longer and have better atmosphere? and no body hurt?

house number 1... well..... there'd be alot of damages, people hurt, raped, molested, made fun of, fights happening, holes in the wall, etc.. :rifle: Even maybe somebody gets killed, and police will have to get involved in it all the time

house number 2... people still relaxing, and chilling having fun, chatting, and having a great time  :afro: No police.. all peace.

Heheh..you've got a point, shibby -- pot makes people relaxed and giggly -- whilst alcohol doesn't -- it creates violence and confusion. Yes, pot does cause a bit of confusion, but we laugh it off and kick back and laugh over the confusion whilst the drunks will get upset over the confusion and fight about it, etc.

After my roomates started smoking grass, i did some research and limited myself to medical journals or studies done by agencies that did not have any invested interest in the so-called War on Drugs.

After a month's worth, i joined my roomates in their recreational use.

Smoking grass helps me focus on my studies, especially with those dry-as-hell 800 page treatises of philosophical nature.

I believe that pot is awesome for people with long term illnesses. It helps them be hungry again and the pain to go away. The bonus is it is all natural. I think that people has made pot look bad so many times and comparing it to hard drugs, like coke, heroin, speed, etc... The fact is pot is way different from hard drugs. We need to look at Holland. Pot is legal there and the crime rates are lower there than the states. Canada has decriminalized pot. That means if you get caught with up to 1 oz of pot, you will get no jail time, instead you will get slapped with a fine following how much you were caught with. It shows that Canada knows that pot does not do much harm to people. I hope the united states and the rest of the world will follow and the laws start to relax more on pot.
