Finger bitten off during California health protest

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – California authorities say a clash between opponents and supporters of health care reform ended with one man biting off another man's finger.

Ventura County sheriff's Capt. Frank O'Hanlon says about 100 people demonstrating in favor of health care reforms rallied Wednesday night on a street corner. One protester walked across the street to confront about 25 counter-demonstrators.

O'Hanlon says the man got into an argument and fist fight, during which he bit off the left pinky of a 65-year-old man who opposed health care reform.

A hospital spokeswoman says the top joint of the man's pinky was bitten off, including the entire fingernail. It was not reattached.

She says he had Medicare.

O'Hanlon says the attacker fled but authorities have a good description.

What political beliefs a person has nothing to do with being able to act like a civilized person. Some people on *both* side have gotten out of control. There's no excuse for anyone to become emotionally unstable and violent.

I saw a video of a town hall meeting where people shouted down a woman in a wheel chair. She said that she's afraid of losing her house because of medical bills (including her medications). No disabled person should be silenced like that in a public forum. Too many people are angry and out of control.

Agreed. Does not matter which side the creep belonged to. He belongs in jail. Certainly there are, and will be, similar events while this is being discussed. Not many of these meetings are civil affairs. Sad.
 
Only because we see them bring SEIU thugs and pro-Obamacare "astroturffers" to attend these Townhall events by busing them in and given fake signs to carry is enough to get angry when people see this. How come hold townhall meetings at SEIU offices? What gives? Why bring in posters into meetings when the rules clearly say no posters allowed? Why do these Senators, speaker of the house, the president and goodness who knows what else to call these concerned protesters names and deride them for having genuine concerns about where this health care bill is going? None of the Senators even read the bill before voting on it in less than 13 hours after it was submitted. And many Senators still don't know what's in the bill. What are they crafting a nuclear option to get by with 51 votes in order to circumvent normal Senate votes (require 3/4 of votes for bill to pass) in order to ram the bill through knowing that the blue dogs are not going to vote for it? Can we say "deceit" and "poor judgement" here for a change? If this is going to happen then there is no choice but for the states to invoke the Tenth amendment to limit the size of the government. Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to halt the enforcement of any Washington-approved health care reform. As you may not know, the Tenth amendment says "any power not reserved to the federal government belongs to the state." And some states are planning to do this.
 
Rice drove himself to nearby Los Robles Hospital after the incident for treatment. One report said his finger was reattached, but Rice told THE WEEKLY STANDARD in a phone interview that’s not the case.

“They weren’t able to attach it because a human bite has so much bacteria,” said Rice, who also said Wednesday’s rally had a different feeling than other local health care events he’d been to recently.

“It had a Code Pink element that I’d never seen before and it had a MoveOn element I’d never seen before,” he said, calling some of the Obamacare supporters “borderline emotionally out of control.”

That's so gross and I know health are reform protest, regardless on supporter or opponent is just crazy.

Good luck with Georgia, some of residents could take to US supreme court or Georgia could lose the federal funds.

Lose what federal funds? Georgia isn't seceding from the union. They are using their federal rights afforded to them by the U.S. Constitution called the "Tenth Amendment" .

Georgia can lose federal funds like any states for not enforce the federal law, like 55 speed limit in 1970's and any states don't follow this law would lose the federal funds on highway.

Unless if supreme court said it's constitutional.

Um, it's in the U.S. Constitution that gives that right over to the states. What you are saying and agreeing that Federal govt should be the sole discretationary govt that have sweeping and exclusive powers over all 50 states?

I know what you means but if GA resident take case in supreme court and when they say law isn't constitution so GA has follow federal law.

Ask jillio, she can give more detail about it.
 
The damnedest things people will do for confidence - most are easily put down, have NO sense of resolve, instead using violent behavior in place of getting a point across. I know these types, and I know one thing I've learned from the military - "Peace through supperior firepower". I'm not talking guns in this sense, I'm talking about being psychologically several steps ahead of the offender.

We can certainly assume there are members of the anti-Obama army doing the same thing. No proof, but it does not take a rocket scientist to realize this is likely. Both sides are gearing up for a fight. Doubt you see it that way. "Its all those Liberal hooligans causing these problems" I try to see things as a neutral. BOTH sides are guilty. *shrugs*
