THE Australian Democrats want condom vending machines placed in South Australian schools.
Democrat MP Kate Reynolds said the issue was not one of morals, but health.
"The facts are simple: high school teenagers are having sex," Ms Reynolds said.
"They're not telling their parents but they're certainly telling their friends.
"We can't stop them having sex but we can stop them getting sexually transmitted diseases and we can prevent unwanted pregnancies."
Ms Reynolds said vending machines should be placed where students could buy condoms easily and without guilt.
"It is not for politicians to mandate other people's morals, but it is our duty to make sure people can make informed choices about their sexual health and contraception."
