did some search and didn't find anything very much .. wondering if any contest was hosted in past and wonder if any one would be interested in photography contest? caption the picture contest, etc. different fun photo-related contests.

I'll be more than glad to host one! (to help me to stay around a bit longer for some of you). ;) it should be fun and I'll be the judge. I'll mostly look at not only (or always) the quality of the picture but effort, composition and subject of the picture too. I promise to be fair. swear. :) I thought about throwing out a theme biweekly (or weekly if most of you prefer - I thought biweeky would give people more time to take pictures? be it apples, knobs, pets, or shoes and so on.. what do you think?

yes, there will be (small) prizes .. not fancy kind though, maybe something from me (such as handmade stuff) or the winner could judge the next theme contest. or, another idea you have? unless you each would like to donate small as $2 at each participation for something big. :P

if I see 10 - 20 people wanting to participate in photo contests, I'd definitely start one soon! and post the typical contest rules there. let me know and post here -- any more ideas welcome. :)

Would an international AD'er be allowed to participate?

I think it's a great idea Freckles, personally I would join the club
just for the fun of it, I just have an ordinary camera, nothing fancy
but still would be fun to participate. To be honest I don't really care
about a prize although the idea to judge the next event is a good
incentive in itself.

I vote to sticky your post also! :)

It's about time someone showed up on AD that did contests/events that was not based on internet-only criteria, dooooo it freckles.

authentic will beat all of us in photo aesthetics though. He's got the lambo of cameras.
So make it hard for him!

As part of proof that someone took the photo (credibility) or something, you could just have them write alldeaf.com or AD on a slip of paper and include it in a corner of the photo or just take it in a separate picture that is distinguishable from the entry.

I would pariticipate but would have to keep it out for a while, since I have no camera - my professional one is broken and the small one is pretty much beated up - useless, I'd say.

Would have been cool getting shots from
Australia, that's where you are right?

I was advised and still awaiting for approval. :\

re: authentic -- you don't know yet! ha but not to worry, as said, I'll be sure to play this contest fairly. there will be a limit of times winners can win, etc. again, it's not all about quality or skill--creativity too! all level of photographers; newbies, 'crappy' cameras, amateurs are welcome. :P

gohabsgo & stein, not sure yet, depending on what person likes--will be discussed with the winner. right now so many things on top of my head. I think we're gonna start with giving the winner the judge title to see how it goes first and if goes well then there might be small fun prizes later. without donation to this and other contests.

i am in several photo contest forums, and would love to join, but one thing, how do you stop image stealing qq

I understand the concern .. it's about time finally authentic would take a post seriously! :giggle:

here's few ideas I would do in prevent doing so,

1) make picture (visibly) at smallest size as possible (a little less 4x6: around 500 x 300 resolution).

2) not only have watermark in middle or in the corner, have zillions all over the picture. do them so light that wouldn't distract me trying to judge the pictures. include alldeaf.com too if you want.

3) and third...humm, oh, note above each and every picture you post "do not copy or steal this copyright image to (name" or something like that), this way you can sue.

hmm, maybe it's best if I do this way in a blog? there is ways you can prevent right-clicking saving pictures. pictures that are linked to private flickr album or disable it (the right-clicks I think). I for one will not steal/copy your pictures. but again, everybody always could do a screen print. I'm sure it's not 100% safe at your other photo forums either.

you, participatees, decide the risk. :)

The way they do this at forums (where you sell things) is you hold a slip of paper in your hand or put it with your username written on paper. Nearly impossible to photoshop at higher resolutions.

Only problem is it probably affects the scene you take the photo. That is why I suggested a second photo with the paper slip on it, see something like this for example..

It doesn't stop image stealing from you though, that will happen if the thief wants it whatever you try..

Freckles, and Naisho got good answers, meaning you guys know what to do to prevent from image stealing (no 100%), but I can always prove that those images are
mine. (I have my own method).

People would google amazing photos and steal them and
post it in here, and then you feel it is suspicious, and would you ask that person to provide any proof that image is not from other sources ?

I am joining.

lol couple of my friends (yes they're deaf) can easily win this by a mile. so unfair.

Some photos are impossible to duplicate with a slip of paper with a name on it. The one time shots youll never get again like one of mine I caught a bee in mid flight next to a flower and it looks like its frozen there in mid air, cant see the wings fluttering. And yall are right theres no way from stopping someone from stealing another persons photos thats why I dont put alot of mine up here.

naisho, I'm still figuring how you do slips because you still could crop mostly out of it, right?

I think I know your method, authentic--probably the same as mine. ;) as for suspicious part, I'll do a little research before talking to that person. I'm just hoping in this contest no one would cheat out. if caught, disqualified permanently.

also, the participatees have to be member for pretty long time. or, atleast 50 - 100 posts, depending on their friendliness of posts.

jiro, joining?
