    Bill Wilkerson Center

Congratulations. I have AB and when you look at numbers/design/technology it is the best product on the market. It have the best opportunity to give you normal hearing in all situations along with forward capable advances that the other manufacturers just don't have.

    Cochlear Implant Life-Long Commitment

Tell me which occupations are out there where you don't need to hear and can make 100K+....like I was making before my hearing went bad....

    Cochlear Implant Life-Long Commitment

You kind of missed the point like my former co-workers... I was retiring because I couldn't hear...so it would be pretty impossible to be an interpreter for someone.

    Cochlear Implant Life-Long Commitment

That is all well and good, however, what if you have no talent building things? I have no experience at all building a house or whatever, nor do I have the interest in doing so. It's great that this is your vocation, but it is not just this easy. It's really NOT this easy, especially the...

    Receiving temporary hearing aids

I never got a temporary HA. I'm not quite sure how that would work in the first place since they need to be fit for your ears and would have to be sent out to make them either way.

How powerful are your hearing aids/CIs

You are the one that keeps saying that the technology between the brands is all the same and it doesn't make a difference which brand you use. I am saying you are wrong. Ci's are not about volume, of course if you turn anything up too loud the sounds are going to distort, even with 100% normal...

How powerful are your hearing aids/CIs

Differences in technology....as much as Southpaw is trying to justify his choice of CI, there is a difference, that has been vetted out by independent engineers and just simple common sense. Obviously the ultimate goal of a CI is to get speech and yes, all 3 companies can give you that, but...

How powerful are your hearing aids/CIs

Perfect clarity....yes, hearing and understanding are two different things but I can tell you which type of bird is signing, which instruments are playing in an orchestra or band concert, which direction a sound is coming from, etc.

How powerful are your hearing aids/CIs

I hear just about everything with my CI's. I can't think of anything I don't hear. When I had my HA's I couldn't hear anything in upper frequencies, understanding kids' voices was impossible, I couldn't hear smoke detectors go off, timer on the stove, phones ring, etc., etc.

    Before and after Activation

It is not likely that the residual hearing will come back, but you might get some. The plugged feeling is most likely some fluid/blood from the surgery and that will eventually go away. When that does go away, you might get a little of that residual hearing back, but I wouldn't count on that...

My journey to hearing with a Cochlear Implant

I think everyone has to get at least a CT scan to see if anatomically you are a candidate. The MRI shows greater detail if there is a question about the ability to insert the electrode. I got both a CT and an MRI before my implants, neither done at Vanderbilt.

My journey to hearing with a Cochlear Implant

It has nothing to do with the weight on the incision, it's all about keeping your head above your heart to keep swelling to a minimum. It's like elevating your leg if you sprain your ankle.

    CIs and Music

I think that the mid-scala and Naida has caught many audi's by surprise. I hear this a lot from people that their audis say they are progressing faster than normal. The advanced technology with the electrode and processor has just been amazing. Unfortunately there are some audiologists out...

My journey to hearing with a Cochlear Implant

Just about everyone I know that has had a CI has slept in a recliner or propped up with pillow for the first week or 2 after surgery.
