I’ve seen several posters mention they get Migraines often some more then once a week. My wife is afflicted with this same Disease, and I call it a disease because it is. It’s not treatable, you can’t be cured and the best the Dr. can do is offer Imitrex, Topamax or Relpax.

The wife has gotten to where she will not take the Imitrex injections anymore due to the side effects. She says it feels like she might be having a heart attack so she only uses the pill which doesn’t always work. The only thing that works at this point is a visit to the ER for a shot of Stainal and Phenergan. This will knock her out of action for 24 to 48 hours but it gets rid of the headache. Only problem is it makes her feel like they think she is a drug addict after they see all that she is already taking for the Migraine

Anyone here heard or tried any new treatments and what are the side effects??

Not really, I go the the ER for shots, if it is really bad. Other than topomax and Imatrex i dont know. I'm sorry.

I've read where some people that have had Botox injections in their face to smooth out wrinkles have reported having less severe or Migrain Headaches or less frequent attacks.

I'm a little skeptic about his plus the thought of someone injecting poison into my wife is a little unnerving.

oh?? interesting.... I'm going to take a guess here. Migraine/Headache is activated by many blood vessels around your head. Having a botox shots will "stop" the blood vessels (which is why people joked about it - a doll face, expressionless face, you can't tell if you're smiling or not) thus - lessening the severity of migraine/headache.

:dunno:

Hi, I suffer from Migraines too

The doc put me on Topamax and I am now on 100 MG daily. I had tried to lower the dose but immediately got worse...I also take Imitrex 100 MG and also take Fiorinal with codein seems to help with the headaches that come up my back. I found that (This might sound weird) but inversion - hanging upside down when I feel up to it (ha) helps keep the migraines away too (or do they?). I am not too sure anyone really has the answer... sorry I still get them but not as bad. Hope your wife gets some relief! :hmm:

migraine headaches are caused by the expansion and constriction of blood vessels and capilaries.

the only treatments i've heard for migraines are migraine preventatives like verapamil and topamax or fast acting meds like zomig and imitrex.

i have severe migraines, but fortunately they are helped by 100mg of imitrex.

i also take a mood stabilizer (depakote) for my bipolar which also doubles as a migraine med.

in addition, i take topamax, but at the moment, my dosage is very low (25mg) because i just started taking the med. my doctor told me to expect that we will need to titrate it several times to reach a therapeutic dose.

an earlier poster mentioned hanging upside down as a cure for migraines. i don't know about that, but i do know whenever i move in any direction, my migraine gets worse. when i get a migraine, i can't move and am immobilized. any movement makes the migraine pain 10x worse.

Didn't mean while in the middle of a migraine to hang upside down! same for me I cannot move either! This is for exercise to help prevent! :P

I know, when it feels like every movement you make makes your head pound more, where any change causes another stab of pain.

I used to suffer severe, debilitating migraines, to the point where my boss at the time made an appointment for me with a neurologist and dragged me there to have an EEG, because he was worried I had a brain tumor. It wasn't until some years later when I went off the Pill that I stopped having frequent, severe migraines. I still get one now and then but I take an Excedrin for Migraine whenever I feel one coming on and that usually stops it in its tracks. I know that others have other causes of their migraines, but until I stopped taking the Pill I had no idea that hormones were causing my migraines.

Thanks All. Seems I heard there was a new med Out that combined the properties of Imitrix with a pain killer. It started with a T but I can't recall it or find it on the web.

That's it! Guess no one has tried it that has seen this post so far because it has not been mentioned until now. I was hoping to hear if anyone had tried it and what effects it had on them.

This right here is the main reason my wife has not tried it.
Quoted strait from the site above.

Important Safety Information about TREXIMET
TREXIMET may increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, serious stomach and intestinal problems such as bleeding and ulcers, and serious rash that may be fatal and occur without warning.

The imitrex injection already makes here feel like she's having a heart attack combining IMITREX (sumatriptan) and prescription-strength naproxen sodium (an NSAID) may just give her one she fears.

my doctor wants to put me on treximet the day my imitrex no longer helps me. until then, both she and i see no reason to change what works.

Meant to ask you what kind on Dr. do you use for your Migraines?

i've been seeing my gp for the past several years. however, i started experiencing an increase in my migraines, so she recently recommended that i see a neurologist instead. i have an appointment with one next month.

by the way, i used to see a neurologist years ago for my migraines, but i no longer remember why i stopped seeing him.
