Hey, dropping my information

I'm hard of hearing and this is my first time involving myself with others who share the similar condition. I don't know how to word any of these introductions, so I apologize if I say anything ableist.

What do you want to tell us about yourself?

Were you always hard of hearing?
How old are you?

How much hearing loss do you have?

All these are good things to talk about to help us get to know you.

I was born 27 years ago with this syndrome called charge which affects all of your senses. In addition, it makes your school and social life a complete challenge. This disorder involved hearing problems from birth.

I can hear people from my right ear, but my left may as well be stuffed with cotton.

I don't know if anyone would like to talk about internalized ableisim, or the school system.

Interesting.

Do you also have coloboma of your eyes?

I am deaf and also legally blind, and I have Asperger's syndrome, so I am not a stranger to the challenges of social life.

What kind of school did you attend?

Nope. Be honest, I'm not going to be ostracized because I do not relate to a level of hearing loss that requires interpreters?

Nope. We have a TON of folks here who are functionally HOH or HOH and didn't grow up with ASL or deaf schools.

I am familair with CHARGE. There are a lot of Charge kids at Perkins....I am also familiar with the school and social life issues....and A LOT of mainstreamed and oral kids deal with those...not just Charge kids.

I've never actually had anyone who has been familiar with the disorder. I was set up with someone else who had it. I never heard back from them it's common from things like this.

Charge can be severe to mild right? And you're misunderstanding.......social and school stuff is common among MANY MANY oral and mainstreamed kids.....sigh.....if only we could get rid of the myth that the Perfect Placement is a Minimal Accomondations Inclusion setting....we would have kids REALLY thriving!
And just to add, I most likely went through a lot of the same stuff you did....

I do want to apologize for the assumptions before. I miss out on a lot of conventions of respect.
I'm really happy to know that mainstream people have the same issues as people with disabilities.

These people have not offered to practice with you. The ASL student's thread is there so hopefully people won't clutter up other people's threads with these types of posts.

No, what I meant is that the social emotional issues are NOT just a "Charge Syndrome" sort of thing. They're not exclusive to Charge. Many mainstreamed and oral kids ALSO deal with social emotional issues.

I misinterpreted. I've never met another person who had the same diagnosis. Getting labelled with a rare syndrome makes you feel like all problems can be linked to that syndrome. It's quite isolating.

Um sorry post police... but i didn't see where they said they would or they wouldn't. *honestly I can't understand why some people are rude to other who just want to learn, I'm new to this site and you expect me to be an expert and know what and where I'm suppose to post... I thought it was a site where you could meet new people and practice with them or just talk.

Cylly, yes you're new to posting, but it's just like having a conversation in real time. If we were talking about Charge syndrome in real life, you wouldn't jump in and go " Oh I'll pratice sign language with you!" Make sense now? If you want to meet new people and practice with them, start a new thread, so it doesn't get lost in a completely unrelated thread."

Oh so you were solotaire (only dhh kid in the entire school?) Oh trust me....I've been there and I've done that. I thought I was the ONLY HOH kid with social emotional issues....it is so freaking common.

And remind me to kill the person who decided it would be an AWESOME idea for dhh or other low incidence kids to be isolated in the mainstream.
