What language do you guys think in? I've always been wondering this.

Daughter said that last night in my sleep, I was counting in a language she didn't understand. hubby didn't know it, so she woke up my mother. Mom tells me I was counting in Latin, but I was also doing the number in ASL, but totally asleep. When awake, I do not know my numbers in Latin. According to daughter I talk in my sleep a lot, but I do sign a lot in my sleep as well. I have hit hubby numerous times unknowingly.

Does that mean you don't think of anything you haven't actually seen? :)

Seriously, this article is pretty interesting, when it comes to the relationship of languages and how or what we think.

It is absolutely fascinating. I have always known language has an effect on thinking, and I've always known it was idiotic to claim (As I've heard people do) That you can't think a thing unless you have a word for it.

This is the first time I have heard an intelligent discussion of the matter.

It makes me even more sad that so many languages are disappearing so rapidly. All of them are keys to the human experience that are being lost forever.
