I learned that people have different views about smoking pot and the penal system as well as the military.
I have my opinion, but I will remain mute on this. I know what I had to go through and what my brother wished he could have done. |

Definitely!!
Lanapoo, I hope you won't feel like I'm butting in, since I don't think we've chatted on any topic here in the past. I haven't been a member for very long. Anyway, may I say "Thank you!" to your brother to making this courageous decision to serve in the military. I know you don't think it was right; time will tell about that. But he does deserve gratitude from those of us who are not putting our butts on the front line like that. Please tell him it is appreciated. And second, a personal example: my older step-brother was sort of at loose ends after he finished high school. He didn't get into any trouble particularly, but he didn't know what he wanted to do with his life. He joined the military, eventually was a member of the "Green Berets" and served in Vietnam. It was a tough time. He developed a lot of skills, carried out his missions successfully, eventually returned to the U.S. Thanks to the G.I. Bill, he was able to go back to college, then law school. He has now been a successful lawyer for more than 30 years. My step-dad of course worried about his son all the time he was overseas. But it all worked out very much for the best in the end. I hope for you and your family that your brother will also end up a success story in his own way, following his own path. I'm sure he will appreciate your love and support while he does his tour of duty. |

It will be all right. Soldiers have internet now, even video cams. With effort on both sides, you can still be close.
It won't be easy for anyone. But it's possible. I wish you and your brother and the rest of the family all the best as he does his tour. |

So far today I have learned some amazingly good news!!! The town hall for our little town has approved our garage conversion and code changes. Next up on the list of things to do, we get to hire a surveyor to come check and make sure everything is correct and we have enough space for the septic tank. Then we take that paperwork to the town hall for a permit for the septic tank and once we get the permit, go to the Health Department to arrange for the installation of the septic tank. I believe somewhere in between the surveyor and the septic tank, MIL and hubby also have to go wherever to change the lot over to his and my name and also get the loan taken care of. Once we get the "plat" number, we can go to the Post Office and get our new house number. Yay!!!!

Well, the town of Haverhill has been here since the 60's. All along, MIL and family have used West Palm Beach in their address all along, but in the last 5-8 years, the Town of Haverhill is pushing for people to use Haverhill as their address. Since we are smack dab in one of the oldest areas of Haverhill, we are governed by their codes. Taxes are a little higher and we are policed by the County Sheriff's office.

Hubby likes the area as he grew up in this neighborhood. The house MIL has is where hubby moved to at age 4. Daughter likes the area as we are very close to a park through the Parks & Rec department. Son isn't happy since he really wants to be back in Missouri, but he is doing well with dealing with it. Mother would like to be back in Missouri, but is happy with the neighborhood being quiet. We have some decent and good neighbors and some who are very helpful. |

I learned that it is cooling off again and that we are due another round of storms later this week. UGH. This is getting old.

I agree with this. I do worry a lot and know that moving is not really an option for you Dixie. Your area seems to be getting hit really badly this year than any other recent year I think. I know my God-Parents called to let us know they are fine. They have decided to move and are going to Arizona to be with their 4 children.

Right now I'm thinking of taking a job on the ATU campus in Russellville and moving up to Russellville or Dover if possible. A friend of mine said their are a few administrative positions open. I may apply. If I get such a position one benefit is free tuition.

There is no city sewer in this area of the county. It is all septic tanks. MIL's house that we are currently in has it's own septic tank. she had it replaced about 8 years ago and it's actually too small for all of us. The garage property never had a septic tank installed and so that's what we have to get in. The garage currently is 32ft by 42ft and has no electric, water or plumbing. And yes, the garage is on a 2nd lot. In-laws bought 2 lots side by side.
