Northern Essex Community College, Haverhill, Massachusetts....

Gallaudet University
Flager University
McDaniels College
CSUN in Caltifornia

thanks guys! is rit/ntid a general university where you can study anything? or is it just a tech kind of school?

Just a few more in Massachusetts:

Bristol Community College
Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, MA
Northeastern University - which offers a number of courses including a large ASL program:

What are you planning to study?

Jacksonville State University (JSU) have some deaf students but Alabama has serious interpreter shortage crisis, so many deaf students stuck with captionist and remote video interpreting service.

i'm not exactly sure what i'll study. probably something involving deaf kids.

Gallaudet might be a good bet if you are leaning towards working with deaf kids. Undergraduate is all deaf (I can't remember if they started or still do admit some hearing students...) Graduate is a mix of deaf & hearing. Flagler University in FL is another good one for education type majors (or Psychology). I nearly went to Flagler.

Go with the school that you can afford that has a good selection of programs and courses. Whatever you do, don't go over your head with student loans. I paid for one course at a time and had no student debt by the time I picked up my M.Ed. Bear in mind education has changed a lot and there's not too many people want to stay with the profession due to the high expectations and low pay. Just something to think about.....make sure whatever your interest that you take courses that will help you land a paying job...

Why in or around North Carolina?

well i live here and all of my family lives here also. so it'd be nice to be near them when i need it.

Good point. Western Piedmont Community College is within a mile of North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton.

You did not mention if you are deaf, hard of hearing or full hearing. I need to know if you are d/Deaf. Also you did not mention what kind of courses or field you are interest in majoring in your field.

That way I can suggest that you can go to the Vocational Rehabilitation Service that will help you get some funds and tuition, trip for you go to college where they have Deaf program (depending what kind of major and/or minor education field you are interest in). The counselor will help you find what kind of field you want to go into in college.

As for me, I went to Seattle Central Community College in Seattle, Washington where the college had Deaf program. I don't know if the community college is still there for that. Just have to ask the counselor about that.

If you are living in North Carolina, then there might be some colleges for the d/Deaf and Hard Of Hearing (HOH) near you. Good luck on finding the right college for you. Gallaudet University should not be that bad. :dunno:

Update: I just learn that she has CI which mean she is deaf. Still don't know if she can sign ASL to be comfortable being with d/Deaf people. Just wondering. :)
