Well, mine is a 25 minute commute through the countryside and mountain. No traffic at all in the direction I go to work and back home. The only worry I have is that if it gets enough snow early in the morning (before the plows come out or that it warms up enough to turn it to slush and melts) then I won't go but that happened only a couple of times over the years. I'm waiting until the weather finally warms up enough to roll down my window and enjoy the fresh, clean air. This is one of the perks of working and not get stressed out commuting to work.

So, what's your work commute like? Stressful? Relaxing?

Less than 10 minutes. Only about 2 minutes of it is on a major road. Love it.
In the past, whenever it was plausable, I would take public transportation (bus) and leave the driving to others. However, I would not do that if it required transfers, as some situations did.

30min to 1 hr to NYC and back. maneuvering thru and thru traffic, hostile drivers, etc. yep pretty relaxing :cool2:

i find commuting via public transportation quite stressful and agonizing.

At a previous location where I used to live in New Mexico my working commute was about 2.2 miles and took about 4 minutes in the open desert. Again, no traffic to worry about.

Commute? What commute! I'm retired from that stuff.

However, when I was working (USPS) Houston"s traffic was and is a huge mess. At three in the morning, you could make it in 24 minutes. At seven in the morning, it could be an hour, could be two hours with several accidents.

I'm so thankful that is over.

I think I'm 2.7 miles from driveway to parking lot. But there are 5 lights, one yield (onto the busy road, so that can take time sometimes), and 2 stop signs). Not complaining.

Retired from it also....when I worked day shift, the traffic on the expressway was horrible!....had to leave home 20 minutes earlier than the norm....after years of it, I decided to work the evening shift, and found a better route (off the expressway). Was a breeze!...Not having to go thru the morning or the evening rush hour traffic.....and coming home, I usually took the expressway, at 2-4AM...hardly a soul out there at that time except for the drunks :giggle:...and the fact I was stopped by the police a few times, asking "what are you doing out here this time of the morning"?....So I just picked up my fresh newspaper, and said "just got off work!...and here's a fresh newspaper, hot off the press....

Now, whenever I have an early-bird appointment and have to take the expressway, again, it's bumper-to-bumper.

Stressful. Usually 35-45 minutes if there aren't too many accidents or incidents along the way. It's gotten a little better in one direction since they've opened up a short cut road.

Just coming home from work at the college I've been rear-ended at a red light, had my driver's side window blown out on the interstate, and my Jeep totaled in front of the campus. On my way to and from church, which is basically the same route, I've been hit at an intersection and "nudged" by an impatient driver on an on ramp to the interstate. I've had numerous very close calls where I've had to drive off the road. Coming home from church one time we had to dodge a flying recliner that came off the back of a truck on the interstate.

When I do arrive at the college, unless I have the first class in the early morning, there is no parking. I even have a staff parking decal and sometimes I can't find parking anywhere near the building where I'm working. Even with people parking on the crosswalks, medians, grass, road shoulders, etc., there isn't enough parking (and lots of students take the bus).

If I have to go the downtown campus, it takes over an hour of white-knuckle interstate driving. If there's no parking inside the gated area, we have to park on the downtown street. We've been told by security, never park outside the fence; it's not safe. (Lots of car break ins, plus attacks on students by the residents.) So I make sure I get there plenty early.

Another campus is way out in the country, down a two-lane highway. That's another one-hour drive.

Just about everyone we know has had at least one wreck in this commuting area.

I hate commuting.

Wirelessly posted

80 miles one way thru downtown Los Angeles one hour ten minutes in the morning (4am) and two plus hours home :(

My work commute is in the water. So relaxing, steamy.....(opening my laptop, tap tap to activate VPN, begin remote connection...and....work away!)

25-30 minutes depending on traffic on NSP and LIE but eastbound LIE is less traffic than going west to NYC which can be so stressful. But for snow...well i have to get up a hour early than usual.

I might commute from my bed to the kitchen. Maybe just go as far as the living room if it's a home ec morning and my 13 and 16 year old are fixing my breakfast.=)

My husband, until recently, was a regional supervisor for several grocery stores. One was two hours northeast of us, one an hour south, another an hour north and west. Some days he had to hit all of them in a day. He felt like a truck driver more than a manager.

Now he's an aide in the special ed class at school and he has a ten minute commute. However, we actually spend more on gas, because the previous job provided a gas card.

While in MO, I had a commute of 25 miles that would take 30-45 minutes each way. Now, I no longer work. Hubby has a 6 mile journey that take 30 minutes if he goes in at 7am, 40 minutes if he goes in at 3pm and then takse 45 minutes leaving at 3pm or 11pm, and takes 1 hour if he gets off at 5 pm. If he's off at 2am, then it's a 15 minute drive.
