I just talked about this issue in one of the posts...

I noticed more and more people are demanding others to "prove it" (whatever they had said). It is rude and just childish, especially when that person can be providing sources to prove otherwise. I think that the idea of telling the other person to prove it is not because they really want to know the source to find out more information, but to degrade or belittle the person's opinion or viewpoint. Which is, again, rude.

I understand there are times it is appropriate to provide sources, especially when using direct quotes and when following copyright laws and that kind of thing.

My opinion...hope I don't have to prove it :).

Yes I know it is very childish and argh!!!! hahaha....it will never ends here...

I don't think it's childish. Maybe they prefer a source to back up their posts with facts. They have a choice to look for a source, and they also have a choice not to. There's nothing wrong to be asked to provide a source to back up their claim.

Yupp agree. Never hurt to ask if someone have a source...

A note: A new rule will be added soon--all I'll say for the time being. ;)

Prove it! ;)

Seriously, it doesn't bother me... until a point.

There are some arguments that don't require proof and some arguments that do require proof. I know some people who absolute have to have proof for everything or he considers himself the winner in the argument.

What happened to the word of "honor"? Not everything else is meant to be a lie without having to prove it or else.

Sure, It is understandable to have the sources or links to be able to support your statements but when it comes to a point where they say "Prove it or else" - That's like asking for something that could spiral out of control.

Just my 2 cents.

Geez...

Also

I dislike a person who always judgment on another people!
:thumbd: & LOSER!!!

You are spot on.

For instance, when bolstering a point from researched material, documentation is appropriate. If someone without archaeological training tells me the Apache people had horses in fourteenth century New Mexico, I would need photos of scientifically dated pictographs or reports of skeletons with carbon-14 information.

However, if an experienced historian gives me an opionion of population movements based on years of study in the field, demanding proof is illogical. The proof is in the vast data he or she processed. You weigh the opinion on other factors.

If someone asks me to prove there is such a thing as an automatic-reveolver as described in The Maltese Falcon, I can provide data on the .38 Webley-Fosbery manufactured Webley & Scott, Ltd, from 1901 to 1915.

If someone demands proof that hunting with a cartridge in the chamber is a dangerous practice despite the so-called safety on hunting rifles, I can only cite 55 years experience in the field and the accumulation of firearms and hunting knowledge over a lifetime.

The person always demanding proof uses the false argument of evading the topic. Proof depends on lots of factors.

That's why topics such as religion, politics, astrology, abortion, and the like are such slippery slopes. Facts are few, while faith and beliefs are many. In comparison, rocket science is a lot easier to discuss.

+1

Unless they re giving their own personal opinion, they should give credit to someone who either write or express his or her own opinion.

:gpost:

I have since gone back and added numerous citations to support that for which proof was being demanded. Not because it was necessary, but because it will put an end to this childish attempt to circumvent the topic.

I don't understand about RR add new rule? :dunno2:

I usually ask them about source instead of prove it because prove it seems like act as childish or teens who are talking about stuff like that.

I am pretty sure I know what RR's talking about but I shall wait for the announcement or the "hammer" for some, lol.....

I decide to take a peek in some of your posts in the cochlear implant section, now I can see where you are coming from. It’s sad to see that they demand or required more proof to prove the point.

But however I espescially don't like it people that pretend they wrote their own words by copy and paste it off from a websites, and does not provide a link, source or the name of the person who wrote it at the begining. I absolutely have no respect for people that does that. A friend of mine wrote a poem on a website, someone decide to copy the poem and paste it on the forum and pretend they wrote it themselves, and saying they do not need to provide a link to where they got the poem from. Lately I see more people abuse the copyrights, and ignored the moderator's requirements.

I see nothing wrong with copy a few words etc to get the point across, which is fine but the whole thing or word by word? I don't think so.

Bingo! I have a lot to say about those Internet protocols/ethics but will hold off until the announcement.

LOL yep, I agree with you it very immature and childish asking to "DEMAND" sources and links. Just because a person put the informatinos link on post does not means a person stealing copy right. If someone put their names "UNDER" the copy right then that would be stealing. So I checked Ader's rules say nothing about required to provide the source.
