The Tango iPhone App: My New Favorite Way To Make Video Calls Over 3G Up until now, whenever I wanted to make funny faces at my boss but didn't have the Wi-Fi connection necessary for Facetime, I used the Fring app over 3G. Now I've got a new favorite app for those times: Tango.

Just like with Fring, both users will need to have the app installed on their devices and add the other person to their phonebooks. The similarities between the apps don't end there either: There are both iOS and Android versions available of the Tango app as well, so there can be plenty of cross-platform chatting if necessary.

The differences kick in with the (un-scientifically proven) idea that the Tango app provides better video calls over 3G. We unfortunately couldn't show you a side-by-side comparison of the quality as the Fring app kept crashing on Jason and me, but trust us here—we're practically professional video chat app testers at this point.

While the Tango app is the best we've seen for video chats over 3G so far, it still can't really compete with Apple's FaceTime app when it comes to Wi-Fi calls. But of course you can't exactly use FaceTime to call someone using an Android device.

All in all, I've fallen in love with Tango and will be using it for any 3G-based video chats from now on. [iTunes]

LOL! I got three days ago. Its cool. But not best as Facetime but nice to have video call on 3g.

Thats right! I am kinda surpised to see Apple approved Tango since AT&T didnt want to use Facetime on 3G that force Apple to use WiFi. It make no sense to me. Mmm.. Maybe soon.
 
It's got a lot of bugs. At least on the Android version is does. Some of my friends are not showing up on my list and if someone calls, hangs up and calls again...the second call wont go through.

Also, it will randomly popup while I'm doing other things on my phone. Another thing I don;t like is that it will not integrate my phones notification system. It instead uses it's own and will not allow you to configure it.

Hopefully it will be updated soon.

Yes, maybe next year for FaceTime over 3G. I still have it in my jailbroken iPhone 4. I will wait to listen that Apple would give free FaceTime app for Mac, PC and even Android devices soon. But Tango now is available to use video callings. Tango app is designed by France. I will take test to call from my iphone to my cousin s Samsung Epic 4 soon.
 
I heard rumors that Apple is working on Facetime for PC and Mac OS X. May allow to use on 3G next year like you said. I agreed with you.

Same here. I tested Epic and iPhone 4 have same problems.
 
Strange that I tested on my iPod Touch 4 wont allow me to install Tango?!? Have you guys test it?
 
Finally worked to connect Tango video calling between iPhone 4 and Epic 4G. Video was very good. Better than Fring video calling. Also my friend was happy to use Tango video calling over 3G in his iPhone 4 when I had tested to call him from my iPhone 4 to his iPhone 4.

You scan it with your Android phone camera and it will open either apps market or browser taking you to the apps to download it.

It worked fine for me.

I know, but I have a barcode reader on my iPhone - it scanned and the link was found....broken.

It worked fine for my barcode reader.

Perhaps your barcode reader need to be updated or it doesn't work on iphone since it an Android apps.
