Well most of the deafies in Tenn gather in the 4 major cities:

1) Memphis
2) Nashville
3) Knoxville
4) Chattanooga

U have better luck finding deafies most in Nashville or Knoxville.

here are the School that I attended...
(Born deaf due to rubella in 65)
My Hearing loss was not determined until I was 16 months old. I was diagnosed at HEAR Foundation in Calif in Sept 66 that I have Moderately to Severely deaf. I started with Vicon S2 Binaural Hearing Aids.

Easter Seal Pre-school Feb 67-May 69 speech therapy and pre-school classes. Tucson

Escuela Montessori Sept 69-May70 half day program and speech therapy. Tucson

Az School for the Deaf and the Blind Sept 70 - May 73 full time day student. no dorm life.

Almost went to C.I.D. in St. Louis, MO. didn't like the dorm setting and landscape. mother insisted, I threw tantrum and left. (that show mother listen to me)

Ark School for the Deaf Sept 73 - Dec 73 - full time student I quit that school due to oppressive environment in dormitory setting. Education there is good. (mother listened to me)

University Heights School Jan 74- May 74 Tucson have program for hearing impaired. speech too no interpreter.

Schumaker School Sept 74- May 75 Tucson have program for hearing impaired. speech too no interpreter.

Sunshine Cottage Day School for the Deaf Aug 75-76 Oral Edu. San Antonio, Tx. Lived with guardian family who had a deaf son, left due to parent moving from Az to Dallas, Tx. Interpreter not needed.

Jane Brooks School for the Deaf Sept 76-May 77 Chickasha, Okla. Oral Edu. Dorm life was not bad. attended public school for math. left to live in Fla with parent. Interpreter not needed.

Ashton Elementary Sept 77-May 78 Sarasota, Fla. regular classroom setting with H.I. program no interpreter.
was in Jr High School for up to 2 weeks at McIntosh Jr High in Sarasota before moving to Georgia. while in Jr. High, no interperter though...

J.R. Trippe School Sept 78 - May 79 Vidalia, Ga. regular classroom setting w/ H.I. program (7th grade) (no interpreter)

Vidalia Comprehensive HIgh School Sept 79- May 83 regular classroom setting with w/H.I. (IEP) (8th to 11th)
Passed Stanford Test with top ten in the nation ranking. left VCHS for college without HS diploma. (no interpreter but had student notetaker.) in 82 I had audiological testing and said that I have binaural severe-profound sensorineural loss with no change from previous testing.

NTID/RIT SVP 83 Aug 83-Dec 83, Sept 85-May 88, Sept 92- May 93 Graduated with A.O.S. Degree you know they do provide interpreter anyway.

1981-1989 - California School for the Deaf, Fremont (last year of Elem school, went through middle and high school)
I also attended college after finishing high school --

1989 - 1997: Santa Rosa Junior College (on and off)

1991 - ECC College in Los Angeles (can't remember exact name, only stayed there a week before I moved back north)

I also noticed a few of you had attended an Easter Seals provided school, wasn't it? My mother works as an Interpreter Coodinator for Easter Seals Society in Rohnert Park, CA. (She's been there for 17 + years.)

I think the equalivant would be Headstart today. I am against dhh kids attending general disabilty preschools since it's rare that all the resources a dhh kid needs (like a speech therapist who is experianced in working with dhh kids, and someone who is fluent in Sign etc) are readily available in those types of settings.

1974 to 1979 Nutfield Priory Secondary School for the deaf, Redhill Surrey UK
1979 to 1980 Derby College/Burton Upon Trent TAFE, Derbyshire, England

All three schools mention above in England have close down because there are not enough deaf people in attendance!!

IHR - between 14 months old to about 4 -5 years old, then went to Tigard Elem. School, Sunnyside School, I cant remember what else. until about 4th grade, I went to Oregon School for the deaf. then quit end of freshman year, went to Century High School for nearly 2 years, last 2 months of JR year, I was forced to make decisions. 3 choices, actually.. be a drop out, go to ceveland high school or go back to OSD. cuz I was going thru hard time. due to family. living on my own, moving around between friend's houses, partying all the time, drugs & alcohol. after 4th attempt to get me in IEP meeting, that day actually opened my eyes, on the path I was going down.. they gave me 3 choices, so I choose to go back to OSD. Even tho, I hated OSD. it always felt like a prison school to me. But I knew, if I go there, they wouldnt let me get away with anything. and I'd be forced to go to school every days.. and I wanted to get back on right track, finish school... so I did. I graduated from OSD in 2001. now currently working on going to Portland Community College in the fall. that is if my plans goes thru (VR).
