I would love to see what you say about Linux vs Windows. I am still using Linux for 5 years since switched to Linux from windows xp. :type:

Please read this good example :gpost:

Linux is very nice and I dont mind to use Linux for server but my laptop? Nah. Too limits app.

Vista for me because Linux isn't for average user and more limited apps.

Vista is sexy version of alternative Mac for PC.

I m network engineer at TCS. I installed Ubuntu Server on machine for only web server and data server for only 10 minutes to finish. My boss asked me to install exchange 2003 server on machine so I installed it for one hour and 30 minutes to complete all configure. Linux server has not been crushed almost 2 years! windows server sometime crush also run slower than linux server. some customers realized linux is simple to use many free softwares like office suite, graphic, games, etc. I love openoffice Its free! try to visit www: OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite like Microsoft office 2007.
If you want to play linux, its free to download Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu

win xp or vista still cost $$$ too much for add softwares :Ohno:

Iaptop run linux great and download free many applications.. awesome! :jaw:

I built my own system amd 64x2 6000 with 4 ddr2 at my home and ubuntu amd64 linux running very fast without any problem but bad news is video relay service no support linux :dunno:

Hey Pacman... I am confused. I thought that you prefer Mac over PC (windows). But.... you like Vista

I have Dell XPS with Vista and MacBook Pro with Leopard.

I prefer Mac at overall and PC for games, something others...

I had tried Linux and don't know how to work.

I had removed XP and replaced into Vista due CPU lockup issue in XP and alot of security holes.

Like I said Linux is very limits.

Photoshop, too many drivers are not on list for linux, etc..

Good job for exchange 2003. Is pain in ass to install?

We use google calendar and sync to outlook 2007 and PDA. Plan to install Lightning for someone who dont have outlook 2003 or up.

Video relay service? No worry. Try wine. :)

All is a good example of why the Internet is a good place for spreading so much FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) about Vista.

I have had NO problems whatsoever with Vista (since Beta 2 in May 2006, RC1 in September 2006, RTM in January 2007, and SP1 in February 2008!) on both the 4-yr-old Dell desktop and on this new laptop which I got 3 days ago. I dismissed all the FUD anyway; you should do that and not follow the Vista haters.

Same here.

To make Vista so running so good, need have right drivers and update the windows so recent, SP1 is more stable for gaming now.

I prefer Ubuntu cuz more sexier than Vista. It's the Compiz desktop that make thing whole. My daughter loove Ubuntu than Windoz. She said it's more stable and faster than XP system. Ubuntu box tend to run without crash and reboot more than a month or so.

I like Ubuntu better cuz I can lock each apps or browser that my kids shouldn't use while Windows can't do it.

Vista has better security feature than XP since XP is infamous of security holes and you have install anti-virus to survive of XP, I used had XP and got screw up at few time, I was ended up to install Vista and retired from XP.

I know that some people have issues with Vista due poor written on driver for graphic card, network, motherboard and others, I usually download drivers from Nvidia for nForce motherboard (including with network and other parts), GeForce 9800 GTX+ and sound, also lacking of MS update cause Vista to run so unstable and alot of bugs, I always update Vista to fix the bugs and other issue.

Catty, I know you were complained about issue with Vista, you always download cracked windows OS that cause stability issue due lacking of support on MS update and your laptop seems don't have good varies of drivers to run Vista so properly, that's your problem, not from MS.

I never liked Linux due limited apps and very limited games, don't tell me about emulator, such as WINE, they aren't running like true environment.

Same here! There are only two software that works for one to one videochat is Kopete and Skype. It doesn't work with Video Relay anyway. Need someone to develop software for Videochat in Linux. Webcam too is an issue for compatibilty.

yup that's what my mate is saying to me, hes trying hard to convince me Vista is good and yeah im shy from linux for the same reason too, they are fun to use for short time but for everyday use i would soon get fed up with its lacking of apps /games to use.....

If I had a choice to pick either Ubuntu Linux or Window Vista.

I would pick a different Linux: Slackware.

use VirtualBox to play around w/ these OS

Slackware is good for experienced user but it is not friendly. trust me..:cool2:

Have you been use Ubuntu 8.04.1?

try download Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu

Yes it is good for experienced user. I have used Slackware for years.

I did try older version of Ubuntu in the past but I always swing back to Slackware.

I did download and install Slackware (Kill Bill version) but at the same time The owner had shut down the server for upgrade. I couldn't get modulars downloads :ugh::tears: So I had to drop it and switch to Mepis Linux. I would check Slax again cuz it had been more than 4 months and I ran out of CD R and planned to go out and buy more.

I must admit I had burned too many Distros of Linuxes on CD-R disks. Such as SabayonLinux, PCLinuxOS, DSL, Solaris, MintLinux, Gentoo, Ubuntu, Knoppix, OpenSuSe, PuppyLinux, Debian, Kubuntu, Fedora Core (Had Red Hat 9 last 6 or 7 years ago), Mepis, BSD, NimbleX, Mandrivia (Formerly Mandrake 8 that I had 6 or 7 years ago) and few more that I can't remmy the names. Some are more than one copies of version that had been updated every 3 to 6 months. That's why I ran out. I finally found my flavor.

It broils down to me that I like the flavor, Ubuntu, Mepis, Knoppix, DSL, PuppyLinux. I've tried Mint Linux, I like it but had bugs that won't let me install VirtualBox and some softwares (it's Ubuntu base).. I played with OpenSuSe and it was okay but had some issue with softwares I installs and didn't like some of Linuxes that had problems with my hardware especially with Gentoo!! Friend of mine have Gentoo Linux and he had no problem. I told him I tried to install Gentoo into my AMD64 system and Athlon 1.6 Ghz system. It took foorreeever to install. I told him I think I burnt copy too fast so I tried again with slower 24x and still same problem. I decided to wait out till Gentoo have newer version with hardware update and resolved bugs on installation. I can tell each flavor of linuxes under Gentoo, Ubuntu, Slax, Fedora, Mandrake, Knoppix, and name a few that Developer creates their own Linux flavors.

Currently, I have Mepis 7.0 installed in 600mhz "naked" mobo in the garage workbench shucked next to books. It runs great but slow cuz of graphic card. I use that to search info and chat on AIM while working on project in garage. So once I get new mobo for orphaned AMD64 processor, I would throw in Ubuntu again. Perhap maybe try using same Hdd that I threw all craps in with Compiz to fix the setup on hardware so I wouldn't have to do all over again.. I worked hard on Ubuntu Gusty Gibbion then upgraded to Hardy Heron which run like wonder until ABIT AV8 succumbed by bad BIOS.

Since that Thumbdrive is getting cheaper, I would install Ubuntu in 8GB flash drive. It's plenty to use ONLY if you don't plan on to throw heap of softwares craps in it.

Funny thing. Windows XP can lock each apps and browser too. You need looks deep careful. I do for few coworker at company to avoid from trouble. My supervisor thought XP can't lock app and browser but he is wrong. :)
