during my experience, I don't have laptop in my begin of college years. It become difficult for me to make note, do my homework on lab's computer or my desktop at home.

I'm terrible at handwritten and the embarrass that I cannot read my own damn handwritten. Two years later, I finally able to afford my own laptop. I realize it's much easy for me. I able to typing to make note quick and clear than write the note. Heck! I could able to typing as "write on paper" to girl to make different communicate. It was great experience!

So, in future, if I have child(ren) who are serious go college, I'll be for a sure and buy laptop for them! That way, they able to take a great advantage tool to use in college.

I never had a need for laptops. There are computer labs all over campus with free printing.

College of Liberal Arts: 2 computer labs (free printing)
College of Applied Science and Technology: 1 computer lab (free printing)
National Technical Institute for the Deaf: 5 labs (free printing except one)
College of Computing and Information Sciences: 3 computer labs (free printing)
College of Science: 2 computer labs (free printing)
College of Engineering: 2 computer labs (free printing)
College of Imaging Arts and Sciences: 2 or 3 computer labs (free printing except one)
College of Business: 1 computer lab (free printing)

Wallace Library: 3 computer labs (not free printing)
Student Alumni Union: 1 computer lab (not free printing)
Nathaniel Rochester Hall: 1 computer lab (free printing)

Aside from those computer labs, NTID and SDC also have computers for video relay and internet use.

I've always had my own desktop computer in my room and have always been able to do my work on my own time. I never really had the need to go elsewhere except for printing.

If I had to use the computer elsewhere, I always found an available computer to use.

The College of Computing and Information Sciences has one HUGE computer lab on the 2nd floor. That computer lab contains about 100 computers.

hate to tell you...

it's for your college, not for any college. Sorry pal.

have you thought of schedule that lab would be closed? duh?

and how you gonna to write note? make note by type is fastest than hand. I have know one person is fastest handwritten in the class but she can't beat me in typing.

and you're such a old fashion who cannot go anywhere. Heck, I can do my hometown while take shit. :D

I have notetakers in class that write very clear.

If it's a small note or memo of something like "Get new hearing aid batteries", then I just type it up on my trustworthy Sidekick II.

Yes, I know that my college provides a lot of resources. That's why I was saying that I didn't have the need for it.

However, I did say that I had my own computer and did fine with it.

Would you like to verify that for me?

Sam's right. Most labs does have schedules and I would personally be able to print in my own room at my own discretion rather than attend a lab.

What if you're too busy to print at home and can't get notes off th onle access services website, then you run to one of the several RIT labs, only to find out it's closed late at night but you're tired and you want to sleep in order to wake up in time for the classes. What are you gonna do?

You're screwed, that's what.

I did without lappy and I was doing fine! No big deal really! I happen to have PC at home with laser printer, now I have both Laser and Inkjet. So, it is not always feasible to have Lappy all the time. These lappies can grow legs at College!

I am not sure about free printing at one of these labs at RIT, but during my time, its been free. Maybe not anymore, I don't know and I can go in and peek to find out. :-D RIT is only 9 miles away from my home.

First of all, you shouldn't be relying on technology. You're supposed to rely on yourself. I can write notes just as easily as typing in a laptop if not with similar speed. Writing notes are better than on laptops when it comes to graphing, hierarchy drawing, lines, bubbles, etc. You just can't really do that easily on in a word processor program unless you're a pro with ASCII. ;)

Oh, and I write like a girl too. I add big bubbly dots on top of my i's. ;)

And haven't you heard? Technology is slowly taking over normal human writing processes. Why do you think we have Tablet PC's now? It comes with a stylus which allows you to write your own notes on a Tablet without wasting paper. Tablet PC's is a great thing to buy if you're concerned about wasting paper and protecting the environment.

Excellent idea... except I don't have my own printer. Besides, I never had problem printing my stuff before class. I simply walk to the building where my class is at and print my stuff there before class.

Who says I have to print them out to read them? I can simply access the notes online and read them there. I can also download them to my computer and read them on my own time.

Yep, I'm a screwball. ;)

tablet PC = $1,500 to $3,000
note pad & pen = under $2

I've only seen two students on campus with a tablet PC. For one of them, battery died. For the other, it broke. Both lost all of their notes from class.

Me? I just opened my folder and pulled out the notes I made and the notes I got from my notetaker... on paper. :thumb:

For non-students, you won't be able to access them. All computers now require DCE account access. Of course, you could always find a friend who is a student and ask him to go with you to one of the labs. :)

It's not my fault if they can't take care of their things.

Yeah, and you're helping destroy the forest. Bravo.

I can't wait to get a Tablet PC and be done with it.

Wow, you ignored the fact that I asked what if you're really busy?

Bravo, for avoiding the question.

Who says I am avoiding the question? I've never been busy. I handle time management well.

It only takes less than 1 minute to print my stuff. So, who's to say that you're "too busy" to wait 1 minute?

Yeah, I am an environment killer. :)

Ever heard of recycled paper? :thumb:

The point of owning a laptop is to do work at your convenience time rather than have to work around people and cpu lab schedule.

For me, I prefer laptop after desktop for obviously reason which is less space for me. In college years, you wld often have to move to different room or place every year - laptop make it easier on yourself than have to lug heavy desktop.

That's one PRO that I've considered. The only problem is that I can't fiddle around with a laptop.

I got a desktop computer years ago. My friend got the exact same computer as well. She gave it to me a couple years later. So, I simply took what was in there and doubled everything I had in mine. :thumb:

The other reason for a desktop was because it was cheaper. :)

I bet I typing faster than you sign. Oh! did i mention I typing faster than I sign? :giggle:
