Getting computer back from the shop XP Windows ?

Hi, I am going to be getting my computer back from the shop and it will have XP Windows. Is there anything I should know about XP Windows ? What are the best features of XP Windows ? The pro's and the con's of having Windows XP ? I did not get a new computer for Christmas. Somebody else in my family got a new computer so I am getting my computer back from the shop completely fixed and install XP Windows. Should be getting my computer back sometimes this coming week in January 2007. I am excitied and anxious to get my computer back, especially with XP Windows !!!!!! :) :thumb:
 
congrats on that :hug: Hmm.. Xp is much better than windows 98 and ME and has more advanced features especially on security like administrators and stricted users.

Anyways, I will be installing a localized version of Linux on my computer on the first days of new year. I want to learn more about a different operating system.
 
You are welcome Highlands and I can't wait to get my computer back and see how Windows XP goes. I am curious what is Linux for ? I have seen that word Linux used many times here on AllDeaf so I am finally asking what is Linux please ?
 
How does Windows XP look on youtube.com, another video clips like AOL with their closed captioned t.v. news from CNN on AOL ???

Linux is an operating system and it is based on UNIX operating system. That is, it is completely different from Windows . There are many different operating systems in computer worlds. For example Macintosh,Microsoft windows ( which include 98/ME/200/NT/XP/Vista and etc ),Linux,Unix,BeOS,Microsoft Dos, IBM Dos and so on.

An operating system completely manage computer and lets us to use it and run programs,softwares ,games and etc... Operating system is the core of a running computer.
 
Thank you Highlands, I understand much more clear now. Just can't wait to get my computer back from the shop. I am anxious to see how my computer works with Windows XP. :fingersx:

You know... Windows Vista is going to be released on January 30. If you paid for Windows XP, chances are you'll get a coupon with it to get a discount on upgrading it to Windows Vista.

Thank you Banjo, I will ask the computer shop to see if a coupon comes with the Windows Vista. Can I ask what exactly is Windows Vista for and what does it do please, if you know ? Thank you :) :thumb:

It's the new Windows OS coming out to replace Windows XP.

Just make sure they installed XP with SP2 (service pack two) & the updates that came out after SP2. Also get a good AV (anti-virus) program + spyware protection. With that said it should be smooth sailing!!! :)

P.S. Make sure they hand over the Win XP cd. BTW Is it XP Home or Pro?
 
I just found out the parts came in the mail today, January 2nd. I guess I will have to wait alittle more longer. I am not sure just how much longer and they do have the XP Windows disc but they need to install new parts in my computer then it will be like brand new again. The computer shop seems to be back-logged with alots of computers to be fixed and they will get around to mine sooner or later. I think it is first come, first serve so basically it will be done in the order recieved, I think so it is going to take some time before I can get it back. The shop is a family run home computer repair shop which is understandable with Christmas and everything so I don't really mind because it is better to take the time to fix something than hurry up and fix only to have it back in the shop. I prefer to have quality work done. :fingersx:

I suggest that you not install XP. You would be sooooooo much better off with Windows 95, considering that your pc is an ancient shitty one.

Seriously, Just paid half of the computer bill for repairs and throw old parts away then install new parts and after it is fixed, the computer will be paid for in full. It looks like might have to wait until Feburary because of the computers being back-logged for repairs and he will eventually get around to mine which is fine because I am in no hurry. :) :thumb:
