Sony's online store lists seven games for next-gen console at just under $60, including one first-party title.

Gamers have known about the price of the PlayStation 3 since E3 (except in Japan, where the price was recently cut), but the costs of the system's games have been up in the air. The cat may be out of the bag now, as the online Sony Style store now has listings for seven games, all priced at $59.99.

Shoppers can now preorder Ubisoft's Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, Activision's Tony Hawk Project 8, Call of Duty 3, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog and Full Auto 2: Battlelines, as well as Sony Online Entertainment's Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom.

The pricing of Untold Legends may reveal what future PS3 owners feared--that first-party games would retail for the same price as third-party games. Microsoft currently prices new release first-party games for its Xbox 360 at $49.99, $10 cheaper than the $59.99 tag on third-party games. First-party Wii games have also been confirmed to sell at $49.99.

The price falls in line with what Activision CEO Robert Kotick said at a Merrill Lynch Media and Entertainment Conference earlier this month. "We have not seen a lot of consumer resistance at the higher price points, and we expect that all of our next-generation products will be launched at $60 price points," Kotick said.

Sony has not yet come forth and officially made an announcement regarding the pricing of PS3 games, first-party or otherwise. It should also be noted that while the games are priced at a Sony store, they are for preorders only and prices could change between now and the game's release. Sony had not responded to requests for confirmation as of press time.

Though the PS3 launches in the US on November 17, eager gamers may be able to get their hands on PS3 games before then. Six of the games are listed as releasing before November 17, including Untold Legend's early bird date of November 2. This isn't anything new--Xbox 360 games beat the Xbox 360 to market before its launch last year.

TGS 06: Analyst: PS3 price drop a sign of 'weakness'

US-based analyst reacts to new price for 20GB PlayStation 3 in Japan; calls it "a questionable business decision."

Industry analyst Mike Wallace issued an investor memo today reacting to news that Sony intended to drop the price of the low-end, 20GB PlayStation 3 in Japan.

Wallace, who covers the game industry for UBS Securities, called the move "a questionable business decision and a sign of weakness" on the part of Sony.

Stating that Sony said it made the move "in response to consumer complaints about the console's price," Wallace paints the decision as window dressing at most.

"This price cut is only on the 20GB version of the PS3 in Japan, which in our view is not significant given that the US is the key market for the PS3," Wallace said in the memo.

He emphasized that even at the lower price point, the model remains more expensive than either the Xbox 360 or Wii in Japan, and he goes on to further dilute the impact of the price drop by reiterating his view that the 60GB PS3 model is likely to be the more popular one in Japan, regardless of pricing.

PlayStation boss Ken Kutaragi said yesterday that in Japan, Sony would cut the price of the lower-end PS3 (with the 20GB hard drive) to 49,980 yen (US$429) from 60,000 yen (US$515).

Sony is doing well right now.

If Sony would cut price for lower-end PS3 from $499.99 to $399.99 then I wouldn't surprised and almost same price as premium 360 but big difference is 360 use DVD and PS3 use BD and cell processor since BD is more worth for prices. :eek3:

I wouldnt count on Sony for an success just yet. I'm sure many of us americans are still upset that Sony cut the price on the low end version and not the low end version for America release as its like they expect us to pay more than the japanese so I say...fuck that.

There's same with Wii because people in USA and Canada have pay more on Wii than in Japan. Canada does charge for consumers to get Wii under PST and GST, that higher than USA does.

Does you think its fair for people in USA to pay more on Wii or PS3 than Japan does?

I've heard that Europe have to pay more on the Wii than Americans due to shipping.

But with Wii, that's different because it's much cheaper than the PS3 and is still very affordable lol.

Yea, Europe have VAT (Value Added Tax) that much higher than USA does.

I'm proud that I'm not from Europe. :)

No, I don't said that but it was from rumors. :ugh:

it was sony's news about 70 to 80 dollars for blu-ray games depends.

Some games are not made in blu-ray are 59.99.

Right now, we can not trust sony until they made final decision. Look at Sony had been delayed twice!!!

Mostly, we can hear from Sony in late October to early November for final official.

Well, It already expensive in Japan but that sucks for them.

I'm proud to live in US and more value than Japan does.

I don't know about that. I noticed when sony made in japan. It is cheaper than USA. If USA sellling products to japan is more expensive because of import charges.

I went to Paris, and I finally found USA products like Coke. I was shock and it cost too high than in USA! Believe that. Here in USA for coke 55 cents. In Paris, 2 dollars. No kidding! From vending machine!!!!

LOL... It does happen in LA when 12 oz. coke can is cost around $0.75 to $1 compared to $0.50 to $0.55 in Chicago area. I prefer to drink Pepsi.

I wasn't surprise after Steel said PS3 games will more expensive than USA does but not know about what happen.

I would tell to Ken for kiss my ass.

Why don't you try go to NY and buy a coke? Thats because in NY, a coke costs is now $1 dollar or $1.50 dollars. Each state has a different vary price. Coke, pepsi, pizza hut,. Bk, and etc...

You serious! Wow! Probably it in paris will be more than that. I went to Paris in 1991 for 2 dollars coke. It is smaller than we had regular coke can from vending machine. I believe right now, it is over 3 dollars. Who knows. If anyone goes to Paris, or google up for coke price in Paris. LOL!

i would go for it higher the quality the higher the prices is pretty logical to me

I did look up about prices changed in Europe. It is true that it changed and increased value of USA products more than 1991 that I visited in Europe.

I already did that before and fun is over. Let the game begin! Do you have xbox? or xbox 360?

We will meet soon if you do have those.

Reminds me of those Super NES games back in the 90's, those games used to cost about $69 to $79 on average in Japan...aka Super Famicom (sp). Be glad you're not paying $200 for a game on the Neo Geo!
