A drive usually 3.5 disk

B drive usually 5 1/4 floppy disk

C usually main hard driver

D usually main CD-ROM (Can be DVD, CD-RW, CD-RW, etc)

all rest such as F, G, etc... These are add from Zip Driver, network, or another harddriver.

Ohh intesrting about all rest such as F, G etc :) .. I know what is A, C and D that is all but B? new to me lol

It can also represent removable drives such as flash/thumb drives, SD/compact flash readers, etc.

My computer has A, B, D, D, E, F, G, and H drives.

5 1/4 disks? Are those still around, outside of museums, ha, ha? :D

The Windows PC have a odd way with that. Macs don't do that method, it's all GUI with names of devices with little icons.

my F:/ showed removable hardware.. that where my digital camera card goes in there.... (printer)..

On my PC and laptop (both Windows XP) I can "rename" the drives to make it easier for me to remember what each one is for, such as "camera" or "SD", for frequently used ones.

Not as good as Mac but better than nothing. :D

Don't worry about F, it mean it kind of stuff like, USB, and etc like that. It mean it extra and add new program different kind of it. If you want to extra USB, then ask for computer fit for you. :) Don't worry!

And, F mean image memory disk. Whatever many different kind of staff. :) Don't worry about F mean ok. :)

Yeah, I knew that. ;)

I am A, C, D, R, W, Z,

I love it why?

I mean :
A = Disk Device
C = Hard Disk 1
D = Hard Disk 2
R = DVD-Rom for Read
W = DVD-/+ for Write
Z = Zip250 Device

Interest!

Technically, that's not true, but the subtle awesomeness of the way UNIX devices work is far outside the scope of this thread.

B:\ new to you? Actually it is VERY VERY OLD to me! Used to be for 5.25 inch floppy drive. I have one here I think, and its been collecting dust ever since. I can take pix and post here what 5.25 inch floppy disk looks like if ya wish. I still have em laying somewhere.

These drive letters were set up by Micro$oft during the days of DOS! You can partition one hard drive into several small drive. For example, you have 200 GB hard drive, and you want to split them into 4, so meaning C:, D:, E:, and F: in same hard drive, but each would have approximately 50 GB; or you can set each drive to size totalling no more than the capacity of hard drive itself.
Linux, and MAC don't use that, they use different way of configuration. That is why it is not common to see viruses and hacker attacking MAC and Linux. On other hand, most virus writers knows the default drive on M$ is C:\ and that is how they can easily attack your PC.

B: is from way back in the old days when you could have 2 floppy drives. I do remember seeing those old 8 inch disks !

If you have a Sony lappy, you can look at the slot it's a memory stick slot [drive F:] (not the ram stick) when you can use transfer a photos from the camera's stick.

I used be on XP my lappy have a A (USB Floppy), C (Hard drive), E (DVD/CDRW) and F (Memory Stick). for now my lappy is running a linux system all automounted UNIX system drives, CDRW and Memory stick, also my camera have a USB plug can do transfer into my USB Flash drive for example.. Camera USB plug into USB hub box and the flash drive plugged into hub box, my linux detecting a camara's internal memory and start transferring to my USB flash disk.
