know where to purchase? since i dont need the sound come with....just basic to start with pci-e and sata for internet, email and enter level video edit..or dvd movie. i don't seen or find which sell without audio..? any suggest? thanks....

I think most motherboards now come with on board audio so the only thing I suggest is to disable the audio card on your board through the BIOS. Plus, an on board audio card doesn't jack up the price.

Just be aware, it is better to have "Sound card" even though it is so STUPID to me. the reason for that is sometimes there is software that REQUIRES sound card!!! How stupid programmers are thinking every damn user is hearing! They missed minority BIG time. These programmers turned me off by forcing me to get sound card to make their program happy. WTF?
Having motherboard without sound card won't save you much anyway.

yea, i agree with you,diehard...often m$ prompt saying something alike---did you forget turn on? or it cant run program without it.... seem linux dont bother to ask if have or not...anyway, there are allot feature out there... i can't narrow it down to simple one. i guess i'll look at pricegrabber.com or directron.com. does anyone think asus and msi good one? what about foxconn? is it new one?

Try newegg.com Neo recommended me this site. They got pretty good cheap boards there.

Tsk Tsk.

Here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829130001

Cheaper one and you can afford. You don't really to worry about sounds. Why I have sound card because some games and edit movie won't let me run without sounds.

Enjoy it.

I'm not sure you'll have much luck finding one without onboard audio, any more than looking for one that doesn't have hardware that will handle a floppy drive even though floppies are on the verge of being obsolete.

As others have said, though, there are a lot of inexpensive motherboards out there; check newegg.com or zipzoomfly.com.

Agreed. Linux has a driver that makes the programs THINK they have sound, so you don't have to worry about it.
Code:
modprobe snd_dummy
does the trick if you have no sound card. But I agree, programs should NOT require a sound card just to run.

Ah, you need root permission:
Code:
sudo modprobe snd_dummy

ah, got it and went through...thanks
since totem able to open up without sound check... now i found website: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats

if you knows or understand this,,, it seem no process steps or order to start with for movie file or format for any media file on either totem or how get mplay also plugin for firefox? so, which step to start with? i mean to order first step..i just got o/s ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake)last weekend... i m learning...only thing bother me is .wmv who is m$ control over...where mostly software develop start with...or mostly winxp user have used dl to website...also flash, Macromedia Shockwave and java for firefox wont on mine due to..local langage? anyway if any would help? thanks once again.... also if easier than public then pm or vp is fine with me...

If you want to make that permanent, type these in a shell:
Code:
sudo su
echo "snd_dummy" >> /etc/modules
exit

I should sue ms for their stupid movie maker requirment.
it is ADA violation.

There was a time when I had a game that didn't have subtitles. However, there was a trick to get the subtitles to work by disabling the sound card before installing the game. After the game was installed, I enabled the sound card and the game ran with sounds and subtitles. This was the only game that I knew that could do this. Heh!
