a hearing person started signing to you in signed english instead of ASL? I'm not at all clear if signed english is rude or not. The reason I'm wondering is that I LOVE ASL...it is beautiful. BUT, I don't have any classes near me, nor do I know many d/Deaf people so my options to learn ASL are very limited. I was thinking I might have a fighting chance of learning signed english (SEE, right?...) on my own :shock:

thanks!

::facepalm:: looks like I'm in a lose-lose situation...:roll:

Sorry. Are you in a very small town with no local Deaf center to learn ASL?

Maybe your state would help you fund the education and a sitter if you had a goal of fostering deaf children?

I live in one of the larger towns in WV....but that's not saying much. There is no local center that I know of. The sad part is, with my limited knowledge of ASL (I perhaps know enough to carry on a conversation, but not in depth...) they would still put a child here that is HOH or d/Deaf. They put children in whatever homes they can find, basically.

Haha, I wish. WV wouldn't do anything like that, I don't think.
