SEOUL, South Korea - A woman in South Korea who tried to pass the written exam for a driver's license with near-daily attempts since April 2005 has finally succeeded on her 950th time.

The aspiring driver spent more than 5 million won ($4,200) in application fees, but until now had failed to score the minimum 60 out of a possible 100 points needed to get behind the wheel for a driving test.

Cha Sa-soon, 68, finally passed the written exam with a score of 60 on Wednesday, said Choi Young-chul, a police official at the drivers' license agency in Jeonju, 130 miles (210 kilometres) south of Seoul.

Police said Cha took the test hundreds of times, but had no specific total. Local media said she took the test 950 times.

Now she must pass a driving test before getting her license, Choi said.

Repeated calls to Cha seeking comment went unanswered. She told the Korea Times newspaper she needed the license for her vegetable-selling business.

I am considering the fact that maybe the woman was illiterate. Either that or she didn't study.

I was just thinking I hope for others safety she fails the driving part of the exam.

Wow, that's quite a determined driver if you ask me. LOL

I bet she passed because she drove the instructor's crazy and passed her to get rid of her! LOL

She should never be allowed to drive if it takes her 950 tries! They need to make a law saying you have to wait 90 days before retaking the test. You get 4 tries a year and if you fail 4 times in a row, you must wait 1 year each retry.

If she can't pass the exam at ALL, then she is not meant to drive. At least take a taxi or a bike or something.

It's not rocket science to assume this woman should not be driving....I remmy so vividly in school, when we took drivers training (in N.C.). And we had to drive in the mountains. Our teacher was hearing.....4 of us girls at a time....The teacher was a frazzled wreck whenever we got back to the campus. I was the only girl who passed and got my license. Lots of memories! But wonder if those other girls are driving today?

I think she should just take the bus or train...there's plenty of transportation there.

As the Greyhound song goes....."It's such a comfort to take the bus.....and leave the driving to us!"

I would give up after about 10 times. I passed with the 2nd try at high school drivers education.
