What's your dinner tonight?

Actually, I like oysters. But I never can remember...are you supposed to eat them in the months with "r" in them, or not eat them in the months with "r" in them? I always get confused!:P

Has to be with R. Those are cold months. Shellfish is dangerous in hot weather.

MIL bought Papa John's pizza!! That totally killed the diet, but it was good.

The local paper says to put a cut raw onion on the bottom of your foot, then a sock over that when you go to bed and it will draw out all the germs and bacteria. They even say if you keep a bowl with raw peeled and cut in half onion in room it will help. Never tried it, but I might.

If I get the major sinus plug up, I just boil cider vinegar, put into bowl, place a towel over your head which is over the bowl and breate in the fumes. It will clear the head and for me it lasts a day or two, but if I repeat it daily, then it takes about 3 days to totally clear out the head. It's just been a while since I've been sick.

But nobody will like you if you sleep with a raw onion on your foot. That is one home remedy I would gladly skip.:shock:

omg...my ex mother inlaw who was great with home remedies convinced me to snort cayenne pepper. Yes, I was foolish enough to trust her. I was foolish. Did it work? Yes. Very well. Did it hurt? Like napalm to the brain. The headache went away within 5 minutes, the sinuses drained insanely. I really did feel better after it stopped hurting. lol at myself! She was kinda evil, I was sooo stupid. Oh, and the rush was akin to an illegal substance.... it was crazy.

Jillio, hope you feel better soon, and the cayennes are much better taken orally - lol.

Tonights food was rattatouille, steamed white rice and a huge whole wheat roll with a pat of real butter. mmmm

Wow. Yeah... you're either foolish or suicidal for doing that.

I dunno, I had an old boyfriend who ate raw onion daily. Said it was good for him. He was rank and had the worst smelly gas. I dumped him.:giggle:

lllllllloooooooooolllllllllllllllll

Hmm... I wouldn't mind to eat raw onions again, only if they are Vidalia onions! :) My great-grandmother fed me her homemade garlic/onion soup when I was just a baby. It helped to cure my asthma.

Tonight I had some pizza from Domino's.

Tonight my dad had made shake and back chicken, with corn and carrots I believe. I decided to just use a bun and make a sandwich because I really didn't feel like eating much as I'm not feeling good at all.

Chicken pot pie and buffalo wings (my fave)

I ate in a Chinese restaurant I had never gone to. Shrimp in bacon, asparagus and rice and sugar donut. It was good.

I went on the bus for an adventure with my nursing student daughter. It was a big adventure. A schizophrenic man sat by us. He touched my shoes, I was terrified but no we are home my daughter said he just asked about the charms on my crocs.

Then a group of high school boys got on and watched us a little and came back and sat with us and scared the man away in a few stops. They told my daughter they thought the man was playing with a small gun up his sleeve, but I thought he had a switchblade.

At least tonight I felt like I met my guardian angels..

I cooked a roast last night and my kids wouldn't eat it. Loghead doesn't like roast either, if I remember correctly. My hubby said that it was good so at least someone liked it. LOL!

Tonight it is Margharita Pizza by Palerma because it was on sale for $3.99

Sweet n' sour chicken, fried rice, and fortune cookies :D (no, it's not take-out)

Oooh! Eve would you send me the recipe for sweet and sour chicken? Do you make the sauce or buy it? I can't seem to get that dish right and my kids love it.

Ingredients:
Chicken Bits:
2 pounds skinned, de-boned chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 cup all-purpose flour
A little fresh ground black pepper, ground ginger and garlic powder to season flour (not a lot)
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
Vegetable oil
Vegetables:
1 green bell pepper, washed, seeded and cut into 1/2-inch square bits
1 red bell pepper, washed, seeded and cut into 1/2-inch square bits
1 large yellow onion, skinned, root end removed, cut into 1/2-inch bits
2 medium carrots, peeled and trimed, slice thinly on the diagonal
1 20-ounce can pineapple chunks in juice (no added sweeteners)
Sweet and Sour Sauce:
1/2 cup reserved pineapple juice
1 cup water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
3 tablespoons lemon juice
4 - 6 drops red food coloring (optional)
2 rounded tablespoons corn starch mixed in enough cold water to make a slurry
Preparation:
Directions for Making Chicken Bits
When cutting the chicken into bite-sized pieces, remove any fat, gristle or connective tissue. If the chicken is soft-frozen or almost thawed it is easier to cut.
In small frying pan, add 1/2-inch vegetable oil. Heat to deep-frying temperature.
In a bowl mix eggs and milk. Beat until well combined.
Place flour and seasonings in a shallow bowl and mix.
Dunk pieces of chicken in the egg and milk mixture. Allow excess to drain.
Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour coating thoroughly. Here is your chance to practice with your chop sticks and keep the flour off from your fingers.
Drop pieces into the hot oil and fry until deep golden brown. Turn as necessary to cook evenly on all sides. When golden brown, remove to paper towel covered plate to drain.
Repeat until all chicken pieces are cooked. Set aside until assembly.

Directions for Making Sweet and Sour Sauce
Place pineapple and water in sauce pan. Heat over low flame. Slowly add sugar while stirring.
When sugar has dissolved, slowly add the vinegar and the lemon juice while stirring.
Add corn starch slurry and stir while heating. Bring to a boil.
Stir constantly until thickened. Add food coloring (a couple drops at first and then adjust until you have the red color you like) and stir well to mix. Continue to heat and stir until almost a syrup. Remove from heat and set aside.
Note: You will be judging the thickness of the sauce while it is hot. It will thicken considerably when it is set aside and cools. Later, when added to the vegetables, the moisture from the vegetables will thin the sauce quite a bit.

Directions for Assembling Completed Dish
Add a little vegetable oil to a large frying pan or wok. Bring to frying temperature over medium heat. Add vegetables (but not the pineapple) and cook, stirring frequently, until onions begin to caramelize.
Add sweet and sour sauce and continue cooking and stirring until vegetable are bite tender and sauce has re-thickened and clings to the vegetables.
Add pineapple and chicken bits and fold into the vegetables and sauce. Simmer until heated through. Serve.
I also add in sliced waterchestnuts :)

On lazy/hurried days, I fry up some frozen popcorn chicken, add in pre-made sweet & sour sauce, pineapple chunks, and a can of the sliced waterchestnuts.

Thanks for the recipe. It's just what I was looking for. :ty:

Last night was a Denny's Grilled Chicken Deluxe Salad with Fat-Free Italian dressing. Tonight was a "mom's throwtogether" spanish style.
