USA cars vs Foreign cars !! (Ford/Mercury vs Toyota/Honda)

Dodge has built their minivans and ram truck in st.louis for years. And oddly enough, chryslers are stolen around here left and right. Same as detroit, chryslers are stolen 24/7 there. When I say "Chrysler" I amreffering to jeep products also. They are owned by chrysler and use the same ignition parts in the steering column.

Since Dodge build these car models in St. Louis, would you say that the thieves have connections or at a point in their lives were employed by the car manufactorer? If so, that may explain why so many of these car models are stolen because they may be familiar with how the cars are built and how easy it is to ignite a car without a key.

Just a thought I had.

I never said it was was of the most stolen cars. I said it was easy to steal....
What makes them so easy to steal? I searched the web but couldn't find any reasons. All I could find was people saying, "Jeeps are easy to steal," but I couldn't find the reason. I'm really concerned because we now own two Jeeps, and I don't want them disappearing!

Well, I read somewhere that 80% of stolen cars were unlocked to start with. Plus 40% of the stolen cars had keys in the ignition... pretty stupid, I'll say.

We always lock our vehicles, even in the driveway.

Over the past 35 years Hubby and I have owned many vehicles. The only one that was stolen was Hubby's motorcycle, from the Naval Air Station. He had it chained and padlocked to a light post. The thief cut thru the chain. The FBI found it a year later, in another state, wrecked.

Well my Jeep was stolen and cops told me there is good chance that I will get my Jeep back. I asked why? He said most of the time it is joy-ride. Sure enough my Jeep was found! Of course with damages! Unbelieveable this Jeep turned out to be very reliable!!! I couldn't complain about this. Hondas are one of most stolen vehicles, and rarely found again. Know why? Their parts means $$$$ at chop shop!
I don't see my Jeep as top 10 stolen list (as it used to be) anymore! Whew!

I can see why it is just joyride... These Jeep with 4.0L engine got so much horses in it! You can dart very easily and speed very easily. I can beat chevy with v8 not a plm!

I drive a FORD that made past 100K without any major problems (currently it is 138K) and I agree with Lilysdad that maintenance makes a difference no matter where the car is made.

My Ford ZX2 Escort was built in Hermosillo, Mexico. Ford Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr (now known as the Lincoln MKZ) and Mercury Milan, all made in the same Hermosillo, Mexico factory are getting popular and as reliable as my ZX2 Escort. Even the Fusion kicked Camry's ass in Consumer Reports magazine surveys.

If I have a chance to buy another Ford, it will deffy be a Fusion after all the Mexicans can do the job of putting the car together like they did with the ZX2.

I know people alwyas aguring for years maybe more than 70 years which is the best, etc .. i really dont care becasue i like serval cars from serval compaines.. also with enignes...
in reality i never liked 4 cyls till i dated my ex and whoa that ford 1.9 was a true workhorse... but i am a gas guzzlin fan.. love higher hps and cubic inches..
i do know imports can last maybe 400,000 or 500,000 miles and some american cars too.. my grandparents 73 Pontiac Bonneville with 400 cu inch lasted the family 400,000 miles but the body didnt lol my grandpa took good care of it and oil was changed every 2,500 miles and transmission every 5,000-10,000 miles (sadly pontiacs stopped building bonnevilles)

Hey I still have same old Jeep 1984 Wagoner
as a backup car sitting there it's a huge jeep
with big fat wheels in the same parking lot
for years It's a fun jeep to drive on these Grounds
almost like a rubberband.

No one has even bothered to steal it yet....
Knock on the wood.

BUT, I might have to get rid of this Jeep soon

Neat! :P

National Insurance Crime Bureau’s (NICB) 2005 list of America’s most stolen vehicles:

1. 1991 Honda Accord
2. 1995 Honda Civic
3. 1989 Toyota Camry
4. 1994 Dodge Caravan
5. 1994 Nissan Sentra
6. 1997 Ford F150 Series
7. 1990 Acura Integra
8. 1986 Toyota Pickup
9. 1993 Saturn SL
10. 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

A good listing, Reba. I would be interested in seeing the actual percentage of cars of a make stolen relative to the number of those cars available. That would give us a much better idea of what car you purchase is more likely to be stolen. This is a great start, though!

Cooll! Wagoneer is much like Cherokee! I have em and love em! My gf refused to let it go at all! I said alrighty!
Still out looking for Wrangler with 4.0L engine! I don't want 2.5L 4 cylinders!

Yeah I'm sure that you will find the one with 4.0L engine
BUT, what year you prefer to buy ???

I just found a real good website here for
either buy or sell Jeeps ONLY !! Over 153 Jeep Wranglers for sale....
Look at:
Used Jeep Classifieds: Parts - Dealers - Cherokee - Wrangler - Liberty - CJ - Scrambler and more

I know its hard for me to sell my Jeep soon it's very hard
to let it go oh well.... if someone really want to make an offer,
then I would re-consider....

I work at a honda dealership in atlanta GA. A lot of the new hondas I know have switched from timing belts to timing chains, therefore there is no longer a need for even the first tune up until 100,000 - 110,000 miles. That is only the beginning. The reputation of the engines have superceded anyone else. Did you know that in the Indy car races, all 33 cars had Honda engines. Guess how many had problems with those engines in the races????

NONE!!!!! If it is good enough for those guys to use doing 2-300 miles/hour then it is definitely good enough for me.
