The US Men's National Deaf Soccer Team (www.usdeafsoccer.com) is preparing to leave for England on July 20. We will train in Birmingham for most of the week, and play three games:

July 22, 11:00pm: Harrison's FC at the Walsall Sports Centre at the University of Wolverhampton

July 24, 7:30pm: Heath Hayes FC, same location as above

July 26, 7:45pm: Hednesfordtown FC, at their stadium, Keys Park

The headline match will take place on July 28th in Northern London. We will face off against the Great Britain National Deaf Team at Hadley FC's grounds.

If anyone is in England at that time, I encourage you to come out and cheer us on!

GB will beat USA easily! No doubt. In England, we never call it Soccer but Football. Same the rest of the world except USA and Australia.

Wooo.. that's a challenge.

Gonna come and watch your guys try and live up to it?

I wouldn't make such challenges lightly - Team USA has been known to knock off worthy competitors - after all, we did beat Italy 2-1 in the 2001 Deaflympics. Italy gave up 3 goals all tournament and scored god knows how many en route to the Gold Medal.

Of course, GB is a different team, as are we 6 years later, but anything can happen in this grand improvised game of footy.

USA - Great Britain Result

Great Britain brought a strong squad, including 13 of their Deaflympics squad and 7 starters from the gold medal game. Team USA brought 7 veterans in addition to 11 rookies.

After a pulsating match in which both teams had chances on goal that missed narrowly, the match ended in a 0-0 draw. The result speaks loudly as it shows, much to Robinho's chagrin I must assume, that Team USA is by no means whatsoever, a pushover.

Cool! Are you on the US men's soccer team? I went to England two years ago as a forgein exchange student. I met numerous deaf people in Uk and learned BSL. I know one guys on the GB men's football team, John Evans. He and I went with two of his friends to a party in Brimmingham, Uk.

Too bad, both teams are tied by 0-0. It will be nice to see the US win.

Yes I am on the team. I don't know John Evans though, but we did meet many of the British players on the team after the game. One thing I love about the British game is that there are rarely any hard feelings - both teams get together at the pub for a round of drinks no matter how scrappy either team played.

I saw you guys a few years back do an exhibition in Cincinnati. My son's signing choir from his deaf school signed the National Anthem.

I was at that game. We played the Cincinnati Riverhawks. They were good sports even though we lost the game 7-0 or something. What I do remember is that they gave us the game tape, which helped us diagnose a lot of our weaknesses and work on that.

We may have another exhibition in Ohio - this time in Columbus - in Spring 2008. Hope to have you come!
