The NACHI Foundation (www.nachifoundation.org), in partnership with the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors, has applied for a federal grant to fund a new program. The program would offer free smoke alarms designed for the deaf and hard of hearing. Individuals that are deaf or hard of hearing, and who fall below certain income levels would be eligible to recieve the units valued at over $150 each for free.
The NACHI Foundation has previously donated these alarms to a similar program run by the state of Maryland. The NACHI Foundation is a unique charity organization dedicated to housing related issues. The Safe House Campaign, a program of The NACHI Foundation, has developed this program as part of our dedication to home safety for all.
If received, federal funding would only support up to 1,000 alarms being available. It is our goal however to make this program available indefinitely. In order to do that beyond federal funding periods, we will need donor support. If you would like to learn ways you can help support this program, either through donations, memorial gifts, or endowments, please contact dan@nachifoundation.org. If you make a donation via our website, and wish funds to go only to this, please note that in the memo area.
Also, if you or somebody you know is deaf or hard of hearing, is living in a lower income bracket (150% of Federal Poverty Income), and has a no visual smoke alarms, please email dan @nachifoundation.org. Please include your first and last name and permission to be added to our mailing list (only Foundation updates, no sharing of our lists) so that you can be notified if/when funding makes the program possible.
Sincerely,
