Signing whilst singing

I love performers who sign (e.g., Sean Forbes, TL Forsberg) but I know that some Deaf people don't understand them because it's not ASL.

Is it possible to sign in pure ASL whilst singing? I am told that it is difficult or impossible to sign ASL whilst speaking English. But for a song that one practised over and over again, then is it possible?
 
I've tried before, but it is incredibly hard. Your brain basically has to think in 2 different languages at once and that's next to impossible.. :/
