Does anyone know of any resources either on the net or elsewhere that deals with teaching disabled students sign language? The population I work with ranges from CP to Downs Syndrome to Autism.

Thanks for any help

I work with a wide population of students that use sign with CP, Autism and downs. I find the best way is to show them the sign while saying the word. another good way to re inforce it is with signing flashcards can be bought in bookstores or ebay. a big thing with these people is that it is consistant too.

Here they are .....

Autism Society of America: Autism Society of America Home Page

National Down Syndrome Society: Welcome

UCP: Home Page

I am not sure of how to teach sign language to these kids. I am sure they do have some information also, your best bet is to contact these two Deaf universities since they have experience with teaching ASL to people with autism, down syndrome and cerebal palsy :

Gallaudet University

RIT - National Technical Institute for the Deaf

Hope that helps .....
