Some of you may have already seen this poem in a one of two other forums. This is my first attempt at one on my own on a more serious topics... and am having a crack at getting on the serious side of creative writing...... I'm much more at ease doing silly rhyming limericks... just having a go.....

Refuge

I discreetly slipped through the side door,
I knew I shouldn't have come.
Noisy confusion just so overwhelming,
Yearned silence and solitude in one.

Music, laughter and loud voices fading,
I find comfort in the quiet of loneliness.
Never misunderstands, never changing,
It understands what its like to be lost.

Under the stars I inhale the crisp night air,
Feel all my tension subside.
With the murmur of voices behind me,
And solitude right by my side.

Aware that time is steadily passing,
Perhaps I should slip back inside.
Inhaling courage before I re-enter,
Knowing my refuge awaits me outside.
