I'd like to add - I don't automatically understand people singing if I hear a song for the first time. I google up lyrics and listen to songs while reading them, and teach myself the lyrics. Once I've done that, I can automatically recognize a piece of music being played and the singing but its not something that's passive for me. The only exception has been a few singers that sing *VERY* clearly and whose voices I am familiar with (Randy Travis, Josh Groban, Joe Diffie.) I can usually listen to a song by them that I don't know and follow it without difficulty. I stay away from pieces where the music is so loud I can't even hear the singers.

You might want to subscribe to several of the CI related e-mail lists on Yahoo! Groups. I'm sure some of their members wouldn't mind completing your survey as long as you explain that it's for a class project.

Good luck! :)
