I only have Nucleus 22 recipient but does it will work with new Freedom BTE or need take surgery again to put new CI in it?

The last time I spoke with my audie (last Novemer) he mentioned that Cochlear would be making the Freedom BTE processor compatible with older implants. Although you won't get the full dynamic range of the Freedom (having the older implant in place,) the advantage from the better software should be noticable from what he told me. Talk to your audie, I'm not sure when the older-implant-compatible model will be ready (it might already be.)

You could always give it a try - you really have nothing to loose, and you might be surprised.

They are working on Freedom II which that will work with Nucleus 22/24 I think. I just found that out few months ago and didn't think of to post it on AD. That's only upgrade it for Nucleus 22/24 and IF IF only your insurance willing pay for replacement. I'll find that more out from CI meeting that I go once a month.

Does insurance will pay when re-surgery and re-implant new freedom?

Nope. Freedom II is a upgrade for Nucleus 22/24 and you don't need to have another surgery. As long as your insurance approved to replace for a new upgrade Freedom II. I will gonna find out more when I go to CI meeting in 2 weeks I think.

Thanks for information :)

I think from the insurance company's point of view you would have to show that you weren't getting much benefit from the existing implant and that the Freedom could potentially provide better quality sound for you. I don't think this would be hard to do considering that the Nucleus 22 is an older model.

I think you were going to go to a specialist to see if you could use hearing aids again as well weren't you? If I was you I would also ask him/her to do an investigation to find out what your choices and options are with both the CI and hearing aids.
