Why is the word "deaf" written with both a little and a capital D? What does it designate? Thank you!

Hi MoniDew,

"Deaf" refers to Deaf culture/ASL, Deaf heritage and perception of pride and strength in such - as OPPOSED to "something is wrong with me" or lack of alleged "normalcy"

"deaf" refers to the physical or audiological status of one's ears

now, a question for xsuperchick:

Will you translate your siggy for me? I don't know/understand all of the signs (yet...) :giggle:

Her sig is her name fingerspelled in BSL (British Sign Language). BSL manual alphabet is completely different from ASL (American Sign Language).

I should learn BSL :) I saw some good videos on Youtube.

Thank you! I didn't recognize the manual alphabet, either. You've cleared it up for me!

Yeah, send Dogmom's message to doctors' offices everywhere!
