 I'm new to sign language and the deaf world. According to my teacher, whose deaf, there are some very different cultural differences between the deaf and hearing. And there are some things she's pointed out that I wouldn't have thought about. And since I don't like to offend ANYONE, I was wondering:

Do you mind when hearing people participate in deaf events OR Do you like having a place you can, kinda, call your own sometimes?

Do you mind helping newbies learn?

How do you feel about deaf people talking--to communicate with hearing people? (I'm asking because I met a deaf man who didn't sign the entire time I was with him. I know he knew ASL and I felt bad because I thought he felt he had to go out of his way to accommodate me. [He knew I was a new student.])

(I hope nobody gets offended at my questions. ...I'm sure I'll have plenty more. ...I just really want to learn and understand. I'm so use to being in my own world, there are some things I just don't consider.)

Peace

...appreciate your help.
