Here is how it's done if you want to make one yourself

I built it by myself and take me around 10 minutes with careful and ping test. It's cost almost $1 for that.

I have crossover ethernet cable. Should transfer application files from old computer to new computer. Work them in new computer?

No point to limited. It's work for ANYTHING like network printer,network copier machine, computer, laptop, old access point, network scanner, etc. WITHOUT SWITCH AND ROUTER. I used work for company before.

I can suggest using PC File Transfer. It's an easy to use tool, you install them on two or more computers and once the connection is set, you can transfer file just dragging them with a mouse to the desired location.
