Obama Did Not Thanks God in His Thanksgiving Speech

It's the precedent, the official establishment of Thanksgiving Day in the USA, and history. That doesn't change.

I don't care what Obama said or didn't say about Thanksgiving this year. I'm just showing that, yes, there is a precedent for the President to mention God at Thanksgiving time. It's not something that just popped up this year.

A little history lesson never hurt anyone.

History must be kept in context of the day and time in which that particular historical document came to be. One cannot apply a concept from a different period with different social and political implications and apply it, without question. Just because there was a precedent of it having been done a century and a half ago does not mean that it is applicable to today. The U.S. is a different social climate that it was that long ago.

It's a historical document, and that doesn't change. American citizens of today should be aware of the origins of American holidays. Whether or not it's concept is applicable today doesn't change its precedent. Whether or not it fits today's social climate doesn't erase it away from happening.

Or does it? :hmm:

It doesn't erase its happening, but it does make it irrelevent as to whether the same practice continues today.
