One local swimming standout will get a chance to live his dream.

Scott Farrell, 18, has earned a spot on the US National Deaf Swimming Team. Farrell graduated from North Tonawanda H.S. this year.

According to his mother Suzanne, Scott swam 25.52 in the 50m freestyle on Saturday, and then won the 100m freestyle Sunday 3.5 seconds under the Olympic qualifying time.

He was second behind the deaf American record holder and 4.5 seconds off of automatic Olympic qualifying time, but will compete in both the 50m free and 100m free in the Deaf World Championships in Portugal in August of 2011.
