Hello - I am from the NW Suburbs of Chicago. I am hearing, but I have a niece who is deaf. Unfortunately, I do not see her often enough - she is a beautiful, smart girl! I am happy to be a part of her world, and I hope that one day we will be able to communicate without limitations.
I would also love to be able to teach religious education through my local parish, but my confidence in signing is low since I have no one to sign with on a daily basis. I have been taking ASL classes, but I still need a signing buddy in order to become more proficient in ASL. The classes I am taking are not near home and the students in class are scattered in the area. I really don't know how to get started in finding a buddy. Any suggestions?
