Hi everyone,
I'd just like to suggest a new app we've developed for viewing subtitles on your iPhone or iPad, synchronized with your viewing device.

For example, you could watch a movie at the cinema using your iPhone for subtitles.

I think it could be of use for the deaf community - let me know what you think. Any improvement suggestions let me know and I'll add it to the todo list for the next version!

Download the app here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/subtitles-viewer!/id877811411

Cheers!

I wouldn't use it at the movies. That's because looking up at the movie and down for the words is annoying as hell. You miss bits of both of them.

Yes, I know what you mean, I guess that's the problem with subtitles in general. I suppose with this app you could be looking further down - on the other hand with a little ingenuity perhaps you could somehow attach your device to the seat in front! (The text does appear as close to the top of the device's screen as possible.)
I imagine it could be annoying as well either not going to the cinema or not hearing the dialogue - if someone finds this option the least annoying of the three that's a good thing!

Our local theaters have rules against having bright cellphone or iPad screens on.

You have to use their digital captioning devices that won't distract other audience members.

Thanks for the feedback and yeah that's fair enough if the cinema already has closed captioning facilities.
But for cinemas that don't have that facility, I think it would be unfair if a cinema didn't allow a hearing impaired person to provide their own closed captioning device. The screen is as subtle as possible - completely black screen except for white writing( controls fade out when you don't touch the screen for a few seconds)

I miss the days of open captioning at the movies. I can't seem to find that around here anymore. The cc glasses replaced that. :( (makes it convenient to go to any movie showing time, but the glasses are not terribly fun.)

I'm interested in this application, but for Android.

And will this app work only in Cinema? May I use it on computer?
I like to watch movies on computers and some of them don't have captions.
