Hi, my name is Nicole. I'm new here. I am not deaf or HOH but I have a vocal disorder that makes it difficult for people to hear/understand me when I speak. It randomly came on last January.

I have been practicing asl in a class 2x a month and on my own as much as I can. I was still able to communicate with people using some signs that everyone knows, them lip reading, or writing things down.

I am now 22wks pregnant and stuck on bed rest. ASL will be the best way for me to communicate with my child. I would like to try and learn as much as I can before he is born.

Does anyone have any tips, web sites, or books that I could use? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

good asl resources

my name is leslee. i'm not Deaf or HOH either. I just really like ASL. i started teaching myself online from a website called lifeprint.com. There are also really good ASL dictionaries online like aslpro.com. As far as books, there's a really good Webster's American Sign Language pocket dictionary out. Most schools use the Signing Naturally book series to teach ASL classes. I hope all of this helps :)

Try googling ASLU. This guy has a bunch of lessons and quizzes up for free. Best ASL website i've seen for learning.
