I have a mild hearing loss that seems to keep getting worse everytime i go to the doctors. I just wanted to know if i have to get hearing aids. What would be the best style?make? Price is a factor, digital would be too expensive. Im 17 btw and still in high school. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! thanks!

Try finding out the cause of your hearing loss and see if anybody in your family tree has hearing loss.

I'm not familiar with hearing aids myself... hopefully the others here will be able to help you but I suspect analog hearing aids would fit you well. An audiologist would be able to detect how much hearing you have left and tune your hearing aids accordingly.

When I bought aids 3 years ago now I went for analogue as I preferred the way they sounded. They were cheaper than digital aids but both are still pretty expensive in the scheme of things though. :(

I want to second Fragmenter's suggestion and try and get to the bottom of what's going on with your ears first by seeing a specialist.

Also the tinnitus may be a by product of your losses - it's hard to say for sure though. I have severe tinnitus as I lost my residual hearing suddenly last year.

I've had lots of tests since it started getting bad for the hearing and tinnitus, mri's, ct's, hearing tests and tinnitus severity test. My ent and tinnitus person said that it's probably damage of the hair things in my cochlea, because of all the ear infections i had when i was younger. So the reason is pretty much known, cept for the tinnitus but they think thats from all the ear infections too...

Yep. Sorry to hear that you have to suffer this. No fun at all. I was fortunate to have mild tinnitus and my CI cured that!

Tinnitus affects hearing people too. It is not known what is exact cause of it and because of that there is no cure, unfortunately.
A lot of people with migraine get tinnitus too.

sometimes we just have to learn to live with it, I am sorry to say.
I don't have it all the time (only when I fall asleep) but I've heard those who have it all the time are helped by having something on like radio etc.. at least the other sound masks the tinnitus.

Wether your hearing loss is sensioneural or conductive will make a big difference about what kind of hearing aid you need.

sounds like your loss isn't conductive (though you may have conductive damage) so non-digital aids probably aren't all that helpful. I'm in the same boat. I had a "moderate" hearing loss when I was your age, and it's progressed quite a bit since then, though no one knows the cause of it.. something weird with my cochlea or something.

search the web for orginizations like Vocational Rehabilitation and commision for deaf and hard of hearing in your state. VocRehab can help you pay for hearing aids if you need them to get through school or get/keep a job. My Hearing aid (for my good ear) and the FM transmitter cost about $2000, but VocRehab payed for over 75% of it, and I got to keep my job. (your milage may vary)

Try to preserve the hearing you have left. It's easy to inflict damage do your ears when you have a hearing loss. (and it could make your tinitus worse from what i've been told, though I don't have tinitus problemsand I'm no expert on it)

BTEs are always the best!

Not always, especially with a mild hearing loss (yeah, yeah, I'm a BTE user myself, but my loss isn't mild).
