Martel Van Zant (Ok. State)

Is he really deaf as in one hundred percent?
Is he able to speak?

I m sure he have the ability to lipread his teammates and coaches which reinforce the misconception but still its always refresh to see deaf person to be able to play with big boys regardless if one has residual hearing or profound hearing loss.

He was born with no ear-drums. And he provided with an interpreter with him all the time besides bathroom, shower room, and etc.

I saw a few clips of his interpreter doing some translations for Martell in a game, in a huddle, on the sideline, etc and I was impressed. I think the interp is paid for up to 100 hours a week to interpret for Van Zant. Van Zant is a senior, so he may try to enter the NFL. I hope he does find a place in the NFL and have a prosperous career.

Just saw him on ESPN last night. You can catch him in action when his team takes on Indiana on Dec 31 in Insight Bowl.
