Anyone know about this?

They are supposed to fire the beams for the first time in June, if it is still on schedule.

It is a giant particle accelerator. (something like a 27km circle, running through a tunnel under France)

Basically they collide beams and use machines to see what happens to particles, to discover more things about physics.

It is theorized that firing it could possibly destroy the entire Earth and all life on it (this possibility is almost zero, but, theorized to be very remotely possible on a vanishing small chance)

What could happen is it forms what is called a 'strangelet', which is strange matter, like 'anti matter'. even a tiny particle of it could suck up the whole Earth if it came in contact with normal matter, turning Earth into a giant ball of strange matter, killing everyone and everything on it. It would become like a neutron star.
